Obama signs legislation that commits the US to monitor "Press freedom"

Obama then refuses to talk to the Press

Washington Examiner:

President Obama today signed the Daniel Pearl Freedom of the Press Act, a measure that gives the federal government an oversight role in tracking international press freedom issues. The pool-only event went down in the Oval, where Obama was asked if he would entertain some questions — specifically about BP.

"Speaking of press freedoms," ventured Chip Reid of CBS News.

"You’re certainly free to ask the question," Obama said. "I won’t be answering, I’m not doing a press conference today, but we’ll be seeing you in the course of the week."

Oh, right. Wednesday’s press conference with visiting Mexican President Felipe Calderone. We hear it’s two questions per side. Obama strictly limits his availability to spontaneous inquiry from journalists — but we’re still "free to ask."

Like flicking off an annoying (but an inconsequential) fly…

"…Most open and transparent Administration"?  Only on their terms and at their web sites built, serviced, and contented by his Administration.  And by their definition.

Given the lapdog attitude of the Press thus far towards Obama, he should worry about them…..why?  They gave up on their true mission long ago – if it is a Democrat in power,  the intensity goes down.  They’ve given him no reason at all to be concerned.  In terms of results (and respect?), it’s almost the case that they are "the West" and Obama is "aggrieved Muslims" – the West is not fighting for its classical liberal beliefs and neither is the Press.

In the mean time, like Muslims who watch a squeamish West every time they protest yet another perceived slight, Obama is merely sniffs and sneers at the Press’s weakness (as they have shown they have no fight for a fight).

Until the Press becomes the militant aggrieved, the situation will not change – and I’m not holding my breath.  The Press can’t even properly report on Islamofascism properly so I’m doubting that they can learn from them either.
