Obama: The Supreme Court cannot allow special interests, the corporations to have Free Speech to influence elections!

by Skip

Of course, unless, they’re YOUR special interests, eh?

In California, it was noted which special interests spent the most money in influencing elections in that state (you know, the one that has had Progressive governing principles for decades and is now going broke?).  What were the top TWO multi-million dollar special interest spenders?

–The California Teachers Assoc., which spent $211.8 million.
–The California State Council of Service Employees, $107.4 million.

$318,000,000 is not chump change – that is election changing money and has bought LOTS of influence.

It is only fair that if corporate money has influence, so do the Teachers and SEIU folks.

Speaking of which, guess which of these two got the most Porkulus money?  Who has been the recipient of the Stimulus spent to "create or save jobs"?

Yeah, guess who:

Teachers win the stimulus race

(H/T: chart – Big Government)

One of the direct problems of a larger Big Goverment is the rent-seeking that goes on; the enhanced and focused politicization of taxpayer monies to special interests.

Hey, Obama?  Tell you what – I’ll make a deal

  • We on the Right will keep our "special interests" muzzled if and ONLY if
  • Yours (the unions, especially the public sector unions) get muzzled as well.

Deal?

Yeah, I thought that would be your answer.

Aaaand meanwhile the money that’s not going towards Big Government is spent finding ways for Congress to inject itself where it doesn’t belong…that being the market. Healthcare plans that edge out private insurance is one big example, but the corporate influence peddling in the (oft-forgotten) express carrier unions is another. Good op-ed in the Foster’s Daily Democrat (3/11) on this from a coupel days ago from the Fedex’ers who are getting the short end of the stick…
