Obama and expiration dates

There are a lot of folks on the Right that take Obama seriously and listen to his every proclamation.  And they notice a very serious deficiency: every single one seems to come with an expiration date.  For the dunderheads on the Left that may be holding their noses as they read through the ‘Grok, let … Read more

What No False Outrage?

Just a few days ago Kathy Sullivan set the standard by which comments of a potentially racist nature must be judged by people associated with those who make them.  She said they…  …should denounce this racist crap immediately,”.. “True patriots don’t countenance racism, and if you don’t denounce it, you are countenancing it. They should … Read more

The Gamble

Just a reminder as the pro-gambling lobby turns up the heat in a defict ridden era of irresponsible liberal management; the debate is not about rights, or revenue, it is about the gambling lobby buying up your state government. The pro-gamblers argue that we’ve had gambling for years, and while that’s technically true,  we’ve not had … Read more

Freedom’s Last Shot

What kind of a “right” mandates that you exercise it?  For example, imagine a law that imposes a monetary fine on anyone who does not own a gun or who does not belong to a church.  Can you imagine the New York Times, or NBC, or any other component of the left-stream media describing such laws as guaranteeing a right to bear arms and to practice religion?  Yet the left-stream media invariably lauds Obamacare as guaranteeing a right to health care.

Saying that Obamacare guarantees a right to health care is at best nonsensical.  It’s like saying that that the Internal Revenue Code guarantees a right to pay taxes.  Of course, the Orwellian use of language by the left-stream media is quite deliberate.  The left-stream media is in the tank for Obama because he, like them, wants to turn the United States into a European-style nanny-state.

And we are almost there.  The PGA Championship is known as “Glory’s Last Shot” because it is the last of golf’s four majors.  The 2010 and 2012 elections may be called “Freedom’s Last Shot” because they may be our last shot to stop the descent to the ant heap of totalitarianism.

The present Supreme Court of the United States is not going to strike down Obamacare.  There are four incorrigible left-leaning judicial activists on the Supreme Court, so all Obama needs to do is pick off one other justice.  Indeed, I think that the tactless remarks Obama directed to the Supreme Court at the State of the Union speech were really about Obamacare.  It was a message to the gang-of-four that we’ve got your back.  And it was a shot across the bow of the other justices; this is what to expect if you mess with us, so don’t.

Justice Anthony Kennedy famously flipped his vote in the Casey case because he feared the opprobrium of the chattering class if Roe v. Wade were overturned.  It’s hard to see him being the fifth vote to strike down Obamacare.  And while I am sure Justice Antonin Scalia could care less how his vote plays politically, based on his concurring opinion in Gonzales v. Raich (the Califormia medical marijuana case) it’s also hard to see Scalia voting to strike down Obamacare.

So, the 2010 and 2012 elections will be, to borrow a phrase famously used by Ronald Reagan nearly fifty years ago, a time for choosing.  The choice is between liberty, on the one hand, and the illusion of security and the reality of government control, on the other.

Obamacare represents a moral judgment that the end, providing accessible and affordable healthcare to everyone (or, more accurately, what government deems to be accessible and affordable healthcare), justifies the means, denying the individual the right to choose whether to carry health insurance.  Such a moral judgment leads inexorably to healthcare rationing and heavy and ubiquitous government control over our lives.

If the goal of accessible and affordable health care is to be treated as paramount,…

NH House School Musical

Last year, at budget time, liberals, democrats, a few RINOs, and even some chickens were asking where the cuts were.  No, not cold cuts but budget cuts.  The libs had just added another 10% to the state budget, and they wanted to know where, how, and what part of that we could possibly cut.

Let’s reminisce on the stupidity of that for a moment.  They took the budget they had ballooned by 12%-13%, added another 10% to it, but had no idea where they could cut it under the growing umbrella of job losses in an economic downturn?

“Show us the cuts!”  So we did.  They ignored them.

Buckley, Sullivan, Larsen, Norelli, Eaton, Smith, and all the rest of our left-wing fiscal castaways who promoted or legislated more spending were still stranded on a Desert Island of their own making from whose only possible escape was a broad-based tax.  To prove it, they lined up another few dozen smaller fees and taxes on the beach, like coconuts, to spell out the words “Show us the cuts.”  They then ignored the cuts we showed them, acted like they didn’t exist, and instead added an exclamation point called the JUA money grab and the tent tax, then lit it all on fire with a small business tax.

They were very briefly, quite happy with themselves.  But as it turns out, while people can be convinced to vote for Democrats when they are mad at Republicans, they still don’t like taxes and irresponsible spending and have forgotten that you can’t have one without the other.  (See hypnotic gas spewed by Obamunism for some idea of how that happened)  They also forgot that liberals have a hearing defect known as left-wing pattern deafness that not only prevents them from listening to constituent objections, it worsens as their majority grows.  But midnight robberies and an LLC tax in a state where some 95% of business is a small business is just like passing a broad-based tax and killing job growth all at the same time, and none of the usual democrat memes could be made to fit into their growing budget hole.

Obamacare – built on lies

To the Editor:

While Bev Lapham may need to be reminded everyday about the evils of Obamacare, polls show that the majority of Americans don’t need reminders, they have consistently rejected it since last summer.  The problem as Anna DeRose so aptly put it is, “Does Washington ever listen to the American people … ?”

On Sunday the leftists, the bribed, and the threatened voted to take over America’s healthcare system with legislation that threatens the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness of every American.  The process used to get passage was the opposite of the open, ethical, and bi-partisanship promised by President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Senator Reid.  Legislation and deals were made behind closed doors, advocates consistently lied about the bill’s provisions, costs, critics, and about keeping your health insurance (the CBO says 8 to 9 million Americans will lose their employer provided insurance and millions more will lose their Medicare Advantage coverage), and the only bi-partisanship on this bill was in opposition as republicans were joined by democrats who could not be threatened or bribed into ignoring the will of their constituents.

The lives and quality of life of American seniors are threatened by the $500 plus billion cuts from Medicare, in fact 33 million Seniors will be at risk of losing access to medical care according to the Medicare Chief Actuary.  Seniors see Canada, Britain, California and other places where people have government insurance but cannot get a doctor or cannot get treated when needed, and they see this increasingly happen here.

Obamacare creates a bureaucracy which shields politicians when government denies medical care.  If they get sick, Seniors know they may be worth more dead than alive to a government which controls the healthcare they will receive by rewarding or punishing doctors based on their conformance to political and bureaucratic guidelines as happens today in other government controlled systems.  So some seniors will live in pain.  Other seniors will be denied lifesaving care and will die, not only saving medical costs but ending social security payments and perhaps filling government coffers with estate taxes.

Americans know proponents have lied about the financial viability of Obamacare.  They know that you can’t claim a deficit neutral system when you raise taxes and cut costs for ten years to pay for only six years of coverage.  They know there won’t be big savings from reducing fraud, how much additional fraud did the President cut last year?  (No extra authorization is/was needed to fight fraud.)  They know that other integral costs have been taken out of the bill and will be added later.  Also ignored are the increased taxpayer costs at the State level to support millions more Medicaid recipients.

Americans have had a healthcare and health insurance system which satisfies the overwhelming majority of Americans, including millions who have been covered very well for expensive procedures.  Americans know that fixing this system’s relatively small problems (albeit sometimes individually devastating) are best done with small changes not a government takeover.

At President Obama’s health care summit, Americans learned that agreements could have been reached last year to fix those problems and start helping people last year.

But, President Obama and today’s leftist Congress demand a government takeover of the whole healthcare and health insurance system.  They demand another costly new Federal bureaucracy to manage healthcare.  They will  restrict your health insurance choices to fit their objectives, not your needs.  Most people will see premium increases rather than President Obama’s promised $2500 decrease.  If Obamacare is so great, why do they need to hire 16,500 new IRS agents to enforce it and even threaten jail for non-compliance?  Is the IRS the new kinder, gentler face of the Obama government?

Representative John Dingle just told us why it takes so long for the new heathcare “reforms” to roll out, “It takes a long time to set up the mechanisms to control 300 (million) people.”  Was Obamacare sold as being a way to “control” the American people?  Is that  what the American people want, to be controlled by government?

Is Obamacare being done to help really poor people?  No.  The really poor people are…

Weapons Ban Stands

NH House Bill 1693 was killed in the House yesterday by a vote of 191 to 167 almost entirely on party lines.  (Roll Call) Four Republicans voted with the majority of democrats that the measure was Inexpedient to legislate; DiFruscia, Messier, Pilliod, Vallincourt.  Ten democrats voted with the Republicans in their effort to move it forward.  So the legislative facilities commission restriction stands until at least next year–what a short few years of freedom it was.

Many of the bans supporters like to point out that until 2006 deadly weapons were not permitted in the State House.  That it shouldn’t make much difference after only three years.  But that is a line of logic you will never hear applied to anything progressives want.  Once they enact something any effort to repeal becomes an epic battle for ‘families," "the children," or "the globe."  Whatever the victim class might be, freedom lovers are second class citizens unworthy of their compassion.

The lack of evidence that there was ever a problem was not a reason to leave well enough alone, so they hyped up gallery rowdiness after the democrats killed HCR6 and used it to justify a pointless, paranoid shift back in time.  If only we could get them to think about the budget and spending in pre-2006 terms we might not be in all the trouble we are in fiscally now.

So I submit for your approval, from the public record, the list of those 187 democrats and four Republicans, who are not prepared to trust you with weapons on the State House campus regardless of the evidence. (With a reminder that they rescinded that permission in a democrat majority committee with no vote by the full House.  Just the way Liberty Deniers like it.)   May we never suffer any consequences their selfish abuse of power and a decidedly myopic world view.

What Cost For Free Speech

Dear Leader has been at odds with the Supreme Court over campaign finance rules. His reasoning is simple. The old rules work to the advantage of incumbents, and entrenched bureaucrats.
