There are many TEA Party organizations around the nation (and a number of ones that are national in scope). What began as a rant morphed into sign waving, speaker driven events which then turned into Town Hall activism. Many of those same groups have realized that to stay relevant and to bring their outrage to the next step, they are moving to political activism. As seen by the recent (and massive) rallies in Washington DC, the protests won’t stop but they realize that in order to really affect how their local towns, their counties, their states, and the nation, are governed and run, they are moving to obtain, support, and vote for candidates that support their issues and their philosophy. While many of these candidates may well run under the GOP banner (as it is still the Party that more closely hews to the TEA Party philosophy even though it contains many Republicans that continue to draw their ire [yo, Fergus - that be you!], there will be others under other flags that may earn the ear, time, effort, and wallets of the TEA Partiers.
At the most recent meeting of the NH TEA Party Coalition, this topic was certainly one of extreme importance and vigor. This article was brought up – for those of you not familiar with TEA Partiers, this may be a good primer of their political beliefs and their vision moving forward:
The tea parties are large segments of the United States that actually believe the Constitution should be the basis for all policies, laws, and regulations. The Constitution should be how we keep government from doing things that attack our basic rights like: Giving trillions to banks as a stimulus, then making us pay by adding a new tax, moving toward Socialism by taking over companies and trying to force health care on us. Our constitutional system of checks and balances is not being followed. Congress refuses to hold the president accountable, and the courts refuse to hold the other two branches accountable. Courts are taking over the job of congress, by making laws.
The 10th Amendment is important within the Tea Party Movement. The 10th Amendment, is intended to protect our constitution form the system of Government it was designed to create. It says all powers not given expressly to the federal government by the text of the Constitution are reserved to the States or to the people. The 10th Amendment, is supposed to keep power grabbing officials in check. The 10th amendment is not being enforced when the Supreme Court ignores it. If it does not expressly say it in the constitution, it should not be made law. We need to use the Constitution to stop big government. It is unconstitutional to pass: Health Care, Cap Trade {Energy Bill}, Roe Vs Wade, denial of the right to bear arms, imposed unfunded laws like no child left behind, taxes by an agency like EPA saying they will tax energy if congress won’t, and on and on goes the Tyranny.
We support candidates that stand for:
…the people, understand that we have certain unalienable rights coming from God; life liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We seek candidates that know the 2nd amendment gives citizens the right to protect themselves and their families from the Government. We understand the argument concerning abortion, yet most everyone can agree after birth abortion and limiting the number of children a family can have is wrong. Death panels or denial of medicine based on rules set by the government is inherently wrong. We understand that taxes are a necessary evil, yet need elected officials to understand they should only take what is necessary for basic services, especially in a time of economic crisis. They must understand the difference between needs and wants. Candidates, if you are elected you don’t have to do things that cost taxpayers money, like the 1.1 Trillion Dollar new Federal Tax, or locally a new park that would force a municipal property tax.
“Governments are instituted among men, deriving their powers from the consent of the governed.” When there are abuses, and Tyranny and a move toward absolute Despotism as seen by the take over of power by the Executive Branch, using 45 socialist czars that answer to the president, being ignored by both Congress and the Supreme Court, it is the right and duty of the people to “throw off such government and provide new guards for their future security”. Third parties only help elect the bums that need to be thrown out by splitting the vote between 2 groups that have a similar end and 1 group that stands alone. We the people need to become active members in the existing parties. Run for committeeman. If you support a candidate get a list of voters from the County for your precinct and knock doors, send e-mails, write letter to the editors, or even send some money.
