Weekly edition of some of NH’s conservative and libertarian leaning sites that caught my fancy….
Tom at Libertarian Leanings had this:
Howard Bloom, author of "The Genius of the Beast: A Radical Re-Vision of Capitalism" and founder of The Space Development Steering Committee, takes a different perspective on the subject of climate change. He takes the very long view.
…We’ve been deceived by a stroke of luck. In the two million years during which we climbed from stone-tool wielding Homo erectus with sloping brows to high-foreheaded Homo urbanis, man the inventor of the city, we underwent 60 glaciations, 60 ice ages. And in the 120,000 years since we emerged in our current physiological shape as Homo sapiens, we’ve lived through 20 sudden global warmings. In most of those, temperatures have shot up by as much as 18 degrees within a mere 20 years. All this took place without smokestacks and tailpipes. All this took place without the desecration of nature by modern man.
NH Cornerstone has the sad results of a study on pornography
The study, “The Effects of Pornography on Individuals, Marriage, Family and Community,” synthesizes all available research on the effects of pornography on families and communities.
Pornography distorts an individual’s concept of the nature of conjugal relations, which, in turn, alters both sexual attitudes and behavior. It is a major threat to marriage, to family, to children and to individual happiness. In undermining marriage, it is one of the major factors in undermining social stability.
See the complete study HERE.
Brent over at WeekendPundit has a comment on the poor results of Detroit’s education system:
"These numbers are only slightly better than what one would expect by chance as if the kids had never gone to school and simply guessed at the answers," said Michael Casserly, executive director of the Washington-based Council of the Great City Schools, which represents large urban school districts. "These numbers … are shocking and appalling and should not be allowed to stand."Wow.
…How did Detroit get so bad? A very good question. One word. Liberalism. And now it’s happening to the country as a whole. No wonder the people are beside themselves in anger. Those of us who work, anyway.
I may have gotten my friend Paul at Pun Salad into "deep sneakers" inadvertently:
Skip at GraniteGrok eloquently criticizes the latest effort to transform the Granite State into a Nanny State: the recent report issued by the "New Hampshire Commission on Prevention of Childhood Obesity".
I can’t be too critical myself. To find out why, you can download the Commission’s glossy report (PDF), skip to page two, and check out the last name on the list of commission members.
What can I say? She listens to NPR, too.
Sorry Paul! Hey, you want me to talk to your better half? I promise not to mention this….
But Paul? This was cute – GraniteGrok got a 1.2%…darn!
Bruce at No Looking Backward…
…has a good observation about President Obama:
It’s come to this – an American president who has more in common, ideologically speaking, with the likes of Chavez and Mugabe, than he does with the American citizenry.
Is it 2010 yet?
Soon, my friend, soon…..
. Especially as Bruce makes the connection between the Obama Administration’s use of "accounting" to that used by Enron….
Steve over NH Insider thinks that if we all have rights to a Government funded abortion, we all have a right to a Government funded shotgun too! I’ll settle for a Mossburg (in stock at the local range). It might be useful in case the "left wing hate machine" of the Democrat party goes after its moderates (hey, Mike Brunelle – you listening?)
Dan at Granite State Pundit talks about the US devolving into socialism:
I think so, because the voters long ago discovered that they could have access to money from the public treasury by getting the right politician in office. Voters responded by organizing into powerful groups, business groups, labor groups, etc., and pooled their resources to lobby politicians to send money their way, oftentimes via proposals and programs that sounded sweet and innocent, but in the end simply transferred money their way. The government, of course, grows in size and power with each new program, and runs an ever larger sector of the economy as a result. An economy so ordered will, eventually, collapse.
Amy at Amy Kane always has the best pics!

Mr. Pink Eyes at America’s Watchtower again rails against those that refuse to read the bill:
When congress passed the disastrous and failed stimulus bill nobody in the House or Senate had a chance to read the bill before they voted on it. As dumbfounding as it is that a person could vote on a bill without bothering to read what they are voting on, Harry Reid has taken it to another level on the healthcare reform bill.
He is not even allowing senators to SEE the healthcare reform bill that he wants them to debate and vote on. He is not even giving them a chance to read the bill this time.
And here’s the most outrageous part: at the end of this rush, they want us to vote on a bill that no one outside the Majority Leader’s conference room has even seen. That’s right. The final bill we’ll vote on isn’t even the one we’ve had on the floor. It’s the deal Democrat leaders have been trying to work out in private’
…When running in the 2008 elections the Democrats promised a more open and transparent administration but now that they are debating one of the most important pieces of legislation ever to be rammed down the people’s throats, not only are they not letting the American people see the bill, they are not letting those that must vote on the bill the chance to see it either.
Bird Dog at Maggie’s Farm gives another warning on the incipient stroll to Socialism by Obama and the Democrats:
On the Brink, at American Thinker. One quote:
Given the political landscape the left decided on a drastic approach: President Obama and his Congressional allies would take advantage of their temporary preponderance and go all in on their program to take control of three major sectors: health care, education and energy. Speed was of the essence; while the Republicans are in post-electoral disarray, attack, attack, attack, overwhelm the enemy’s defenses, give him no time to regroup, and push through the coveted legislation. All the chips were placed on a blitzkrieg. Using a football analogy, the Democrats threw a Hail Mary pass into the enemy’s end-zone, pinning all their hopes on one daring toss.Fortunately, it hasn’t worked out very well, thus far.
Problem is, they don’t stop trying – even after we see it fail all through out history….the hubris on the part of Elites (who truly believe they know better than the rest of us on how we should live our lives).
Ed over at Ed Mosca tells the tale:
Today’s edition of the Manchester Union Leader (”MUL”) reports that starting this Thursday the Distaso, Fahey and Brooks columns will once again be free on-line.
Why the about-face? It was only last month that Joe McQuaid announced wih great fanfare that these columns would henceforth only be available to paid readers.
Well, the MUL’s line is that these columns have been “paid for” by a sponsorship, namely the Chuck Douglas law firm. But what does that mean? Are Distaso’s et al.’s salaries being paid for by Douglas? Or is Douglas simply paying for an advertisement? Or is Douglas paying an amount equivalent to the number of new paid subscribers the MUL anticipated?
Clearly, if putting these columns behind a pay-wall had been generating a significant number of additional paid subscriptions the MUL would have kept the pay-wall up. The MUL’s line that these columnists have now been “paid for” is face-saving spin. The MUL’s about-face is about preventing Distaso et al from becoming irrelevancies.
So far, VERY few places have figured out how to make "pay to read" work for them – it has to be highly selective and valuable data in very short supply to make it work. Politicians, on the other hand, seem to make "pay to play" work very well indeed….to OUR disadvantage
Only have to see what Mary Landrieu and Ben Nelson "earned" for their votes on Obamacare…
