During the course of a day, I go through a LOT of posts from all over the blogosphere. Usually, I end up only commenting on very few – there is just not enough time to touch on all the great stuff that I get to see. However, I do bookmark them and I am reviewing some of those now in my clean up process as this year starts to begin to wind down. This one caught my eye again:
Jeremy is a young man who, faced with the prospect that doctors may soon have to amputate his other leg, replied matter of factly, "If that happens, I’ll deal with it, too." Perhaps more than any other institution in America, the military represents values like accountability, resilience, strength under adversity, achievement, and personal responsibility; qualities that used to be thought of as simply "American". It seems strange beyond belief that the President swept into office on the shoulders of voters chanting, "Yes, We Can!" now personifies a philosophy of government based on "No, You Can’t" (without my help).
Obama doesn’t "get" the military because with every step they take, whether it’s on prosthetic legs or the steely sinews of an combat hardened Marine, their strength and independence give the lie to his defeatest rhetoric. All those unbowed shoulders, unbeaten spirits and uplifted heads make him profoundly uncomfortable.
And Obama’s message, that life is too hard and is too difficult, that success can only be a "we" experience is just so corrosive! The underlying message is that "you cannot do it alone"; what kind of a message is that?
Fatalistic, in my opinion. When the social outlook was still that of rugged individualism, the sky was the limit; parents told their children that they could go and be anything they wanted. The message was that an individual, through dint of hard work, use of one’s intellect, and never giving up, could succeed here in the US. Obama’s undertones, amplified by the Left, is that only by the Collective can there be Success – and it should be given to all (and not those that have actually achieved it).
As with all other socialist / Communist societies before it, Obama’s push (aided and abetted by the hard Left and the usual Useful Idiots), it will fail here. Success can only come from individual achievement, from an individual striving to better their lives and those of their family.
Socialism strives to change the focus from the individual and a believe in a supreme God (as in Christianity) to that of a supreme secular State.
Interesting, isn’t it, that as they decry that triumphalism, patriotic outbursts, and other acts of "jingoism" showing pride in the US and its founding doctrines are the actual problems with today’s society, they themselves are doing all they can to build a "super-state".
Instead of inalienable Rights derived from God, the elites of the political class are the true believers in Big Government as the source of all good.
And Rights.
Which basically means that all of our Rights are nothing but whims of the current winds of politics.
Elections matter, people – we are seeing that now.
