Ovide Lamontagne: Gets another score from RedState

by Skip

Gee, first on Laura Ingraham and now my friend Erick Erickson, the managing editor over RedState, is basically saying "Vote Ovide!":

That brings us to New Hampshire.

I’m not convinced. In fact, when I talk to reporters in New Hampshire, GOP activists in New Hampshire (heh!), and elected officials in New Hampshire, more and more of them are telling me that Ovide Lamontagne has a very real chance of winning the primary and, in this climate, has a very real chance of winning the general election too.

It seems to me we should consider the difference between 20 years of a conservative record with Lamontagne vs. 4 months of rhetoric with Ayotte.

Now, I’m not really upset if some of you disagree with me. But please tell me why we should line up behind Ayotte? The only people I know of who are trumpeting her loudly are the exact same people who told us we had to line up behind Charlie Crist.

I’m not convinced. In fact, I am increasingly convinced we should go with Lamontagne. If this is a banner year for the GOP and we believe conservatives can win, let’s go with the real deal.

Two very knowledgeable and extremely influential "new media" Conservatives have now pretty much endorsed Ovide.  Now, are they in state and do they vote here in NH?  Of course not.  However, both are championing true conservatives in races all over the nation – putting principle over GOP pragmatism (re: win at all cost, don’t worry what comes next).  That speaks volumes – they are putting their reputations on the line (and so far, Erick has a real good track record on picking candidates that either win or end up on the verge of stunning upsets).

My interest is multi-fold; in order of importance (at this time):

  • Does the candidate that the ‘Grok endorses support the issues and philosophy of the TEA Party movement?  Have they been active in the movement (and no coat-tailers need apply)?
  • Is the candidate that the ‘Grok will endorse a fiscal conservative?  Do they have a track record?
  • Is the candidate that the ‘Grok endorses a social conservative? Are they stressing traditional values?
  • Is the candidate that the ‘Grok endorses actually electable:
    • in the primary?
    • whup the Socialist / Democrat in the general?

There’s a long time to go – the "activist" race is in full swing while the "general public" one hasn’t even really started yet…I’ve got more time to watch, evaluate, and pick…

I knew Ovide in the 1990′s. He is the same as he was then! Ovide is someone you can count on. He stands on principles and won’t back down from a fight. You can count on him! NH, and America, need such leaders.
