MTNP Radio. Determined.

damn torpedoes

Starting Saturday morning at 9 am!

As usual, this week's broadcast version of GraniteGrok and Now!Hampshire.com brings an array of items and guests for your consideration-- ALL STARTING AT 9AM! As always, thanks to the technical wizardry and analytical skills of Skip, if you are beyond the broadcast area of Newstalk 1490 WEMJ, simply click here for instructions on how to connect and listen on the Internet via livestream. (Podcasts here)

Once again this week you can WATCH us at our USTREAM.TV feed by clicking here. Check it out. Do we really have faces for radio? (Or voices for newspapermen bloggers?)

Broadcasting Live with Ustream.TV

  • Margo Thorning is senior vice president and chief economist with the American Council for Capital Formation and director of research for its public policy think tank. Dr. Thorning also serves as the managing director of the International Council for Capital Formation, a new think tank incorporated in Brussels. The ICCF is an affiliate of the ACCF. In North America, Dr. Thorning has testified as an expert witness on capital formation and environmental issues before various U.S. congressional committees.
In commenting on the Congressional Energy Package known as Waxman-Markey, otherwise dubbed “Cap and Trade,” she provided evidence that its passage will cause "higher energy prices slow economic growth.”

Thorning recently presented stark economic conclusions on the high economic costs of a cap and trade system before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) and also to the House Ways and Means Committee.  As one example of a cap and trade system effect on energy prices, Thorning pointed to an analysis by the American Council for Capital Formation and the National Association of Manufacturers of last year’s legislation by Senators Lieberman (I-CT) and Warner (R-VA) S.2191, which set targets to reduce GHGs to 15 percent below 2005 levels by 2020 and to 70 percent below by 2050. The ACCF/NAM analysis shows the cost of electricity to the residential sector will rise by 101 to 129 percent by 2030. The share of U.S. electricity generated by natural gas compared to the baseline forecast increases and industrial natural gas prices would rise by 180 to 244 percent by 2030.

Dr. Thorning will join us to explain what that means for us.

  • The NH Watchdog, AKA Grant Bosse, the Lead Investigative Reporter for the Josiah Bartlett Center, joins us to chat the passage of the Manchester Spending Cap, the dismal October revenue report for NH, and the final numbers on the cash for clunkers debacle. Time permitting, we'll get his take on the latest unemployment figures. Stimulus saved jobs? Really?

  • Robert J. Giuda is a candidate seeking the Republican nomination for NH's 2nd congressional district. Bob graduated from Pittsfield (NH) High School and was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Operations Analysis. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1975. He served ten years as an attack pilot and instructor, including carrier operations in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and achieved the rank of Captain. Bob also served as an FBI Agent before leaving government service to pursue a career in commercial aviation. He has spent the last 23 years as a pilot for a major U.S. airline, and is currently a Boeing 777 Captain flying international routes to Asia, South America, Europe and the Middle East.

Bob served four years as a member (3 as Chairman) of the Board of Selectmen in Warren, and was elected to three consecutive terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives (2001-2006). He was appointed Deputy Majority Leader of the House and served on the Ways & Means, Labor, and Rules Committees.

We will discuss his campaign and what sets him apart from his opponents both in the GOP and the Democrat ranks. We'll also get his take on Cap and Trade and the looming health care bill.

WHEW! It all starts at 9AM EST Saturday. Tune in if you're in Central NH at NewsTalk 1490AM WEMJ or live on the 'Net here... The results are in. MTNP Radio BLOWS AWAY the competition!
