Hour 1              Hour 2

Hour One:

Ovide LaMontagne, who has just officially joined the race to become the Republican nominee vying for NH's U.S. Senator,  joins us for the first full hour.  We talk about his public service background, current affairs, what he sees wrong, and some of his philosophical underpinnings on how he would be making decisions should be become the next U.S. Senator from NH.   Part 1   Part 2   Part 3   Part 4

Hour Two:

Skip and Doug talk about a number of issues, including Fort Hood.  Part 1   Part 2

NH State Senator Jeb Bradley joins us by phone to talk about his Press Conference discussing his two pieces of legislation to help roll back the influence of the Federal Government on NH's Medicaid budget expansion and to allow more choice to NH citizens by allowing them to purchase Healthcare Insurance from insurance markets in other States.  Andy Sanborn joins us with news that Democrats in Concord are, like their Big Brothers in DC have already done, trying to "nationalize" (Staticize??) yet another private industry marketplace:  Weights and Measurements.  In this time of already high job losses, the Democrats took over Elevator Inspections from the small businesses that formerly served that marketplace earlier this year - now they wish to throw more people out of work!  Part 1

Do you think stringing a bunch of words together that sound like an apology makes up for your unbelievable lapse in judgement and blatant disrespect for another human being??? Your advertisers should boycott you and anything to do with you. You should be terminated immediately. You should be charged and fined by the FCC. You should be blacklisted from any and all forms of broadcast and/or print journalism. You may think that Ray Buckley and the rest of us in the LGBT community are "a disgrace to mankind" -- but you sir, are far worse, for you are an intellectually stunted, genetically mutated, disgusting, unattractive Republican.
Gee, and you don't even know me! Sadly, Political Correctness (and those that attempt to define what is correct or not) have forgotten what the First Amendment means. For folks like you, and your brethren in CA who have literally have had people fired and businesses shut down merely for supporting CA's Proposition 8, it seems that NO apology will ever be sufficient.
You're just another ugly disappointment in humanity. Your kind of BS is incredibly old fashioned (and not in some charming way, like the KKK bullying entire families out of a town way). Your parents must have really sucked. God I hope you can't/don't have children, they will only be as socially stunted and willfully ignorant as you. The world is tired of people like you and quickly outgrowing them.
No apology will ever be sufficient, that's correct. You can't apologize for remarks and antics like that, particularly given the statement "Yeah you Faggot. [Pause.] That's right I said it and I meant it. You are reprobate. How the people, the Democrats, I think of some of the gray haired ladies and older people from the old party would stand behind you is beyond me. You are a disgrace to yourself to humanity to mankind and to your party." That was no errant slip of the tongue. That was hate, pure and simple. Frankly, this is exactly how I like my bigots. I've always preferred it when they own their own prejudice and wallow in it, rather than cloak it behind "Christian love". The First Amendment, by the way, only prohibits THE GOVERNMENT from silencing free speech. It does not mean that one can spew whatever kind of idiocy they like without any sort of criticism or backlash. Denying civil and human rights to a minority, even an unpopular minority, is reprehensible. Those who support those actions, even if the mob is in the majority, deserve every bit of scorn heaped upon them. Hopefully the Republican party has learned its lesson, and will start distancing themselves from troglodytes such as yourself. Like my grandma always said, "Lie down with dogs, and you get up with fleas." If I were a Republican these days, I'd be pretty tired of scratching.
Hopefully you'll lose your job and your pathetic 'voice' on the airwaves. Trust me, letters are being written right now to the FCC and your station owners, using YOUR ORIGINAL quotes and not your pissant apology. i can see fines being levied that will send you back to the stone age, where even they wouldn't put up with your homophobic and cowardly comments. yes, i said cowardly and i meant it.
Hi there, bigot. That's right. I said it and I meant it. Do you want to know why people, including gray-haired old ladies, might support an openly gay politician? It's because they're decent human beings, and they realize that homophobes like you would like nothing more than to see LGTB Americans marginalized, stripped of their rights, and perhaps even dead. You made as much clear in your comments, which even your half-hearted apology refers to as a product of your passion. Next stop -- FCC website to report this hate speech.
What in hell did you think you were going to gain by going on that rampage? Even pity is wasted on you.
Were you a bully in high school too? Were you picked on because you look like you are inbred? Or maybe you really are inbred? Really, I thought Neanderthals died out years ago. Funny, but most bullies are covering up other insecurities. Equally funny, most vehement homophobes are covering up their own homosexuality. Like most bigots you are a coward too. Since you had to say your little tirade when you thought the feeds were off. Most assuredly you don't have what it takes to walk up to someone on the street and say this. Yeah, were faggots. Were used to people like you. You are a perfect example of what we go through everyday from other "humans" such as yourself. It says a lot about you and your kind that little gray haired old ladies are standing with us and against bigots and bullies like you. Oh, and your behavior on the air is governed by the FCC. I'm sure they will be contacting you soon. Might want to update you resume.....
What a waste of human tissue you are, Mr. Lambert. And what a sad display of projection. It's been my experience that people like you, who are such aggressive homophobes usually have something to hide. My guess is you are jealous that Ray Buckley has the dignity and pride and confidence to openly come out of the closet while "conservative values" folks like you, Larry Craig, Lindsay Graham, Ted Haggard, Tom Foley, Jeff Gannon all hide behind this kind of hatred because deep down (and not so deep down) you want it - and you are too afraid, too cowardly, too self-loathing, to stand up for who you really are. I wouldn't be surprised at all to find some male hookers outing you - you're that kind of guy. Not a man at all, but a social cypher who feeds on others and hides in alleys and cheap motels to get your kicks while mouthing off about the 'reprobates'. You're an ugly, ugly excuse for a human being. And to those who want to throw out the first amendment as a defense of his actions - try reading it first. Yes, he can say anything he wants, but I have every right to boycott, push for boycott, call for him to get fired, tell my friends and call him out - that is MY right.
Please tell me that Lambert is getting fired for this.
Bigots like you keep me busy on a Sunday afternoon. FCC contacted. Twice. Check. WEMJ 1490 contacted. Check. Advertisers of WEMJ 1490 contacted. All of them. Check. Laconia Daily Sun publisher conctacted. Check. WMUR 9 contacted. Check. See that light blinking in the corner of your eye? That is your career dissipation light and it just kicked into high gear!

Do you understand Jesus in your heart?
Your mother is also your aunt, isn't she...
He deleted my message because I called him beady-eyed and fat-faced. It must have hit too close to home.
What else would you expect from a fat slob hick who used to work at Dunkin Donuts?
You people are truly ridiculous, you think that by bombarding someone who made a mistake and said something dumb with comments that are even worse than what was said in the first place is going to solve anything. I would like you all to think twice before you make some comment crucifying him, about your life and how many times you have made a racial comment or a comment about a group of people. Then think about how many times you have made a mistake. This is the same situation except someone was listening who will do anything to make him look bad. The FCC can not do a thing you morons HE WAS NOT ON AIR. He was speaking in a a group while on film. The FCC can not do anything about a video made (for example watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8koUKOknMhM&feature=related ) So why don't you go running to the FCC about that too...OH wait he is a Democrat so even if there was anything they could do you wouldn't because he is a democrat. So go ahead get his name out there you will just get him more hits for this blog. I also want to repeat that what he said is no where near as bad as the things you have said. He used an offensive word for gay. You people have brutally attacked a man for something that only a handful of people heard.
Mr. Lambert; I am a long time listener of your program, and was very shocked at the remarks you apologized for. I'm not certain I beleive the sincerity of your apology. It comes off as something you were made to do, to keep your job. I think you said what you meant; and that kind of opinion is one I consider based in ignorance and hate, not in intelligence and experience. You are not half the man I thought that you were, and I am very disappointed of that. I guess I was very wrong about you. Now I can't help but look at your opinions on everything you talk about and wonder what else is based upon your lack of experience, and your prejudices. Do you even understand what your own blog title is based on ? The word "grok" ? How could you be so wrong and do something so awful, and contrary, to the way you present yourself ? Don't you see how much harm your remarks have done, not just to yourself, but to those of us that listen to you and agreed with your views ? I am hoping that you'll actually DO something that is a great deal more convincing than the apology you've issued. I hope that you will take this disaster on as an opportunity to become more enlightened, and to also help others who need some enlightenment. Because as things stand right now, you don't Grok anything at all.
Are you kidding me???? You are clearly a bigot and scumbag. How dare you insult an entire 10% of america. You should lose your job and NOT get unemployment.
Lambert - Your comment is typical of where the right wing is today, and why you will never regain any real power. America has moved on. You knew exactly what you are saying, your "passion" did not get the best of you - you meant it, and you continue to mean it even as you are backed into a corner and issue a perfunctory "apology." You hate the fact that gays are saying, essentially, "We don't care what your religious beliefs or prejudices are, we deserve equality and you're wrong and we don't need your approval, you dumb hick." The American right wing has become a bunch of stupid, redneck fascists and scared white boys, who are suddenly not as powerful as they once were, able to push gays, women and other minorities into the back of the bus. Well, hear this, you useless, ugly slug, your 15 minutes are up. The world is moving forward without you. You, and your kind, will be hopefully segregated in some redneck Klan bar with the other supremacists, birthers and rednecks. Your opinions are useless, your views are antiquated and shopworn, and your time is done. I will quote you: You are a disgrace to yourself to humanity to mankind and to your party. By the way, the biggest gay star in the country right now is named "Adam Lambert." Any relation?
You people say he is the hatefilled one. He made one rude comment about a gay person and you think that he hates all gays. You people have your heads further up your asses than o thought. You people are ridiculious and just plain hate filled. Some of your comment are far worse than someone calling someone else a mean name. If this was a democrat you people would have a much different opinion and would be defending them.
Mr ObamaSucks: calling someone a faggot is NOT aimed at only that person. when someone calls someone a nigger, they are not only referencing the person in front of them, they are referencing the entire African American community. ANYONE that uses the pejorative 'faggot' is not only speaking to one person, it is clearly a deep-seated hatred of ALL gay people. he not only called this man a faggot, he went on and on saying. "Yeah i said it and i meant it.' there is no free pass for language like this. NO ONE that uses that language, either nigger, kike or faggot, has any level-headed thoughts of those groups he perceives as beneath him. and you better believe that if he was a Democrat, we'd be raising the same bloody hell. Bigotry is bigotry, no matter who you vote for. and i can see by your pathetic cowardly username, you're in the same bigoted/racist camp as he is. i'm 52 years old and have never uttered a racist pejorative comment in my life. this is not a case of everybody does it. everbody DOES NOT do it.
Okay, so a couple of you think we've said some things that are more hateful than what was originally said. Did we hurt your widdle feewings? I love how people whip out first Ammendment, when they've been busted. Aren't these people just exercising their First Ammendment rights, too? Oh wait...I forgot. Y'all don't think we deserve the same rights as you. The point is that Lambert said a hateful thing and he meant for it to be hateful. "One rude comment" ....pffft!!! If you classify what that donkey said as "rude," I dread what your definition of "hatefilled" is!
Doug's comments were inappropriate in any setting. Having said that, these are not comments he normally makes. He has apologized and he will pay a price for his offense. It seems odd to me that those on this side of the fence must grovel and beg for forgiveness whenever a mistake is made. Contrast that with the other side, who circle the wagons and defend their own- no matter what. A double standard maybe? You can be the judge. Lastly, it is hypocritical to hold others to a standard that you yourself can not maintain. As you would seek forgiveness for your own crimes against others, so to should you offer it when others offend. Think about that. Let your own conscience, if you have one, be your guide.
This man is NOT atypical of other bombastic, "Jesus loving", right-wingnuts, who feel they can spew forth their hatred, ugliness, and 'un-pc' comments, to their hearts delight, without fear of retribution. Well, yes, free speech is protected by the 1st Amendment (as is hate speech, by the way), but there ARE rules and regulations, by which 'journalists' and 'radio commentators' must abide...and Mr. Lambert will obviously be at least 'slapped on the wrist', even with his apology. Ultimately, it's the advertisers (if anyone actually is supporting this clown), who must be brought to task. ANyone supporting this guy's message CAN and SHOULD be hurt...financially, if necessary, NOT UNLIKE the businesses which supported PROP 8 in CA, as he so wise-assedly points out in a response above. HOW DARE this dim-witted, slur-ridden, disgusting excuse of humanity think he can get away with whatever he chooses, simply because 'free speech' is tolerated, and 'p.c.' and 'liberal' in his parlance are four letter words! I've wasted way too much time even thinking about this guy, let alone submitting a response to his ridiculous on-air diatribe. What kind of response do you suppose Mr. Buckley will be submitting? That's one to watch!
Jimmy- "Jesus loving, right-wingnuts, etc........................" Now who is engaging in hate speech? You have just offended all those that follow Jesus- even those who are on your side in this debate. Is that intolerant? You be the judge. As for me- Let your own words stand as testimony to your position. I rest my case.
I'm happy to forgive Mr. Lambert, Don... after he demonstrates true remorse and makes tangible amends to the many people, straight and gay, whom he offended. I won't hold my breath. I don't care what kinds of blather he normally says. This was beyond the pale, and you and every single one of his other listeners knows it. The really pathetic thing is that his supporters are claiming anti-Republican bias... as if we'd stand for this kind of hatred from a Democrat... please. Those who think these comments are somehow worse than Mr. Lambert's vomitous statements have clearly never had anything like that directed at them. Spend a few years in someone else's shoes... trying to get through the day without being called a faggot or being assaulted, marginalized, or discriminated against... and THEN we'll talk. Until then, though, your ignorance is showing.
>> "...after he demonstrates true remorse and makes tangible amends..." And in your view, what would that entail? An earlier comment already said that "...No apology will ever be sufficient, that's correct..."; at least you seemingly would give Doug a chance - what would that be?
You know exactly what that means... acknowledgement that the statement was utterly unacceptable in civilized society, a heartfelt apology for his actions (not an "i'm sorry if anyone was offended" non-apology), and a demonstrated tangible effort to educate himself on GLBT issues. Look at Ted Olson for example... when he first started this whole marriage equality suit with David Boies, the entire GLBT community freaked out because of his previous right-wing history. His actions and statements during these legal proceedings have largely turned the community's opinion in his favor. Trust me, I know we have some characters in our community... but we recognize bigotry when we see it, and we know a sincere apology when we hear one.
If I knew EXACTLY what it meant, I wouldn't have asked. That said, is this what you are demanding is this: nothing less than a total capitulation of a belief in a traditional marriage stance is acceptable? That everyone be in lockstep with on LGBT issues?
There's only one thing I detest more than a shallow-minded, fat, neo-Nazi, super-conservative bigot bent on disrespecting me and my entire community, and that's a shallow-minded, fat, neo-Nazi super conservative bigot bent on disrespecting me and my entire community who is TOO CRAVEN TO STAND BEHIND HIS OWN STATEMENTS. If you're going to call somebody a faggot, sir, at least have the backbone to stand behind your statement rather than offering a sniveling apology that insults the intelligence of everyone who reads it. I'm going to go have wild, passionate, dirty sex with my girlfriend in your honor.
Disgusting!!! Jesus loving, not the Jesus that was taught to me my whole life. Would Jesus be proud of you? No...... Get this man off the air, hatred begets hatred...
Know this: my daughter will be entering the Marine Corps in July to fight for your right to free speech. I served in the Army proudly in the early 80s. I have had custody of my children for six years now since their conservative Christian mother decided she would rather go to Iraq with the North Carolina National Guard than help raise the children she mothered. So, my children are stable, one is going into the military. I work as a fire fighter and help save the lives of people in the community in which I live. Not bad for a gay man eh? Remember that if you suddenly need help from a fireman, cop, from an EMS worker or a military person. Sexual orientation needs to be better understood and accepted, not just tolerated. One day one of us, our one of our children, may end up saving one like you.
I have filed a complaint with the FCC. It is my sincerest hope that the FCC fines both Doug Lambert and WEMJ AM equal to the fines levied against Howard Stern or Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction. A multi-million dollar fine should suffeciently shut up Mr. Lambert and hopefully shut down WEMJ.
I can't believe was a loser you are. If you have children, I feel very VERY sorry for them.
The same, harsh judgment you say Doug has lowered him to, is being exhibited by many on this post right now. So many folks like to use the "judge not, lest ye be judged" line. How many of you know the next verse? It is, "For as you judge, so shall it be measure unto you." Instead of beating someone up, how about trying to dialogue and educate about the issue? They may never agree with your point of view, but you can all be civil and respectful toward one another. Hatred only breeds more hatred. Many posts here are adding fuel to the fire and are really not accomplishing anything constructive. If you have the courage, take the road less traveled- turn the other cheek and show kindness. We will all be bigger and better people for it.
So sad that someone like you has access to a radio station that reaches so many and all you have to say is nasty, hateful things. I do not accept your apology but I would accept your resignation. People who say things like that at work obviously do not care about their jobs, families or the public. I hope you get fired. I hope you never have the opportunity to do what you did again. And, finally, I hope you evolve into a better person. What you said is pathetic.
I hope you get a job offer from Fox 'News' ... where he'll hopefully be marginalized with the rest of the bigots there.
Surely when Doug meets his god on judgment day and god asks Doug why he treated gay people with such hatred and disrespect, Doug will tell God that he did it to honor HIM. Morality indeed, Doug. Morality indeed.
Skip: don't turn this into a gay marriage issue. that fight is for another day. THIS fight is about your partner's homophobic outburst, his dancing around in an effeminate manner and his "apology" that wasn't. what i REALLY find interesting, is this COWARD is hiding behind YOU on this blog. why doesn't the gentleman himself appear on this site? i'd like to know that the bigot himself read all of these words, ALL OF THESE WORDS ON THIS BLOG and had some cogent, and understandable, words of his own on the subject. you are doing him no favors by trying to speak for him. he was all bravado and machismo a couple of days ago. where is he now? this is HIS fight, not yours.
I agree with what Casey just posted. And Skip, yes, that's exactly what I mean. There is no reasonable argument against full equality for GLBT Americans. People don't like to think that their prejudices constitute bigotry against their fellow citizens, but in this case, that's exactly what it is.
In this ongoing war of words, many of us have been deeply wounded- on both sides. Anger must give way to reason and cooler heads should prevail. Have any of us said or done things that were harebrained and stupid? Of coarse we have. Certainly I have. But what I have found is that I am able to make a greater impact in such situations with kindness and reason. If you beat people down, you make a more aggressive, determined, lifelong enemy. Defuse the situation by offering compassion, kindness and forgiveness. Again, they may never agree with you, but they will respect you. These attacks on this post show that many of us are as guilty as the others. We have no room to talk. Search your own hearts and decide if there is room for humanity, room for compassion, room for forgiveness. I bet if you took a moment, you would realize we all need a little compassion from time to time.
http://www.citizen.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091116/GJNEWS02/711169872/-1/CITNEWS Gee.... in my earlier comments, it seems i wasn't far off referencing racism in regard to homophobia. reading the final paragraph of the above link, it seems that in the past, Mr Lambert has wished that the comedienne Wanda Sykes would ' ...choke on a chicken bone or a watermelon rind. What ever gets the job done." Homophobes, like racists, are NEVER pointing their disgusting rhetoric at just the person in front of them. bringing up chicken bones and watermelon to disparage an African American woman, is right out of the KKK play book. perhaps a step too far, but i'd bet next week's grocery bill that Lambert is a Birther too, but again, that would be a fight for another day. i'm batting 2 for 2 at this point, so i'll leave it at that. i'd say the reason we haven't heard from Mr Lambert personally, is all about the lawyers, which says to me, EVERYONE in their right mind understands exactly what he has said and done, and are now hoping this will just go away.
Don: show me the compassion from Mr Lambert in his homophobic remarks, his antics, or his 'for legal purposes only' apology. show me the compassion in his heart when he hoped that an African American woman would choke on a watermelon rind. there is a time for real healing, and there is a time for nonviolent protest. and this is the time for the latter. is Mr Lambert within his Constitutional rights to his thoughts and beliefs? absolutely. are we within our rights to air our own thoughts in response. "You betcha," to use the current vernacular familiar to Mr Lambert.
Thank you, Casey, for the opportunity to write to you. Thank you for your thoughts and opinions. I am retired from my career job. I now have the luxury of working for the pleasure of it. My career job was a completely unionized job. I paid my dues and volunteered for the different charities, like most of my co-workers. But in 1996, the AFL-CIO made a big push for all of its associate unions to take various political positions. Some of these positions I disagreed with, based upon the principles of my faith. As hard as I tried to get my local union to take a neutral position in these areas, they would not. With great remorse, I and 2 others left the union. That began the unrelenting attacks on me and my beliefs. I never attacked anyone, made fun of anyone, and treated all of my fellow workers with the respect and dignity that every human being deserves. Yet having done that throughout my entire career, there was no respect or understanding for my position. My faith was made fun of- for a short time. It was then decided that the rest of the workers would not talk to me any longer. That lasted for about 3 years, with a few beginning to talk to me after that. It took 5 years to finally win them over to a simple position of respect for me and my position, again based upon my faith. How I finally won them over was to simply say "hi" to each and everyone of them every day. I opened the doors for them. I showed them the respect and forgiveness that they needed, and I asked for nothing in return. You see, it does not matter what others do. It only matters how we respond. There is too much hate in this world- on both sides. That change must begin with us.
don: eloquent words, thank you, and you've made my point for posting here in the first place. i've always held doors for people, i let people merge on the highway in front of me, i cook food for my elderly neighbors, i took care of both of my parents and quit 2 jobs to take care of them until they died. i do pro bono design work for small companies that can't afford a designer. i teach photoshop for free to interested people that can't afford the fees from 'big shops' and speaking of big shops, i don't shop at them. i only buy from privately owned stores. i'm pretty piss-poor because of it. i have no bank accounts, i have no credit cards, and i still loan money to those less fortunate than i am, and i always give to veterans-my dad was in the service for 23 years and fought in WW2 and Korea. and i'm a gay man that is an atheist. i'm alone, i've never met the right guy, and i'm a total believer that the universe holds untold and miraculous things in store for us at the right time. i believe consciousness is a constant, our bodies are not. i'm looking forward to whatever is next after this body is used up and done. and i'm a gay man that fights for the rights of those that can't fight for their own. when people in positions of power, or even just on some low-rent, low-voltage radio station, calls someone else a faggot, or suggests that someone choke on a watermelon rind, they are speaking to ME. i am not a bad person, i am not rude or ignorant and i don't kill kittens or molest children. i am GAY and that's ALL. it is not wrong, it is not right, it just is. for anyone to lessen our existence because of some ignorant and deep seated hatred of what they think before they know us personally, as this guy Lambert has with his venomous speech and antics towards Mr Buckley, is just wrong. i'm the last of my more than 250 year old new england family, and i'll be damned if i let anyone say these things without saying a few words of my own. i have Revolutionary war era family gravestones i place flowers on seasonally, and these relatives would expect nothing less of their last scion than to stand up for his rights and the rights of others, i'm sure. have a good night, Don. nice to chat!
Peace to you, Casey. Though we would not agree on so many points, within this maelstrom we have come to an understanding. I honor your gift to others- the gift of yourself. I hope one day you might consider seeking for the answers to life's many questions. If you start that journey, may I humbly suggest you pick up a bible and read a bit. It may be that some of what you seek lays within. Or may be not. It will be for you to judge. I enjoyed talking with you, and in the sharing. I hope we both come away from this the better for it. Take care, and the very best to you.
Wow! Do you use words like "n*gger" and "k*ke" too? Get with the times dude and stop spreading hatred over the airwaves.
Mr Lambert. Even though I am not one to cry foul especially upon those of talk radio whom are free to speak their minds and opinion no matter how absurd or obtuse, I do however feel it necessary to enlighten you on your comment toward Mr. Buckley. "Yeah you Faggot. [Pause.] That's right I said it and I meant it. You are reprobate. How the people, the Democrats, I think of some of the gray haired ladies and older people from the old party would stand behind you is beyond me. You are a disgrace to yourself to humanity to mankind and to your party." This is what you said is it not? Look carefully over your remark. I would love to know how your "passion" got the best of you and not rather blatant bitter prejudice. I myself am an openly gay man, a veteran, and a man of faith as well. Your comment not only was sinister in nature, but also gave the public a slight glimpse into the depths of malice and contempt one person has toward their fellow man. This is not about politics, or issues, or opinion. It is about slander against an entire group of people. Just because you may think all gay people are those that wear tight jeans, eyeliner, and have a lisp, does not give you the clairvoyance to be biased especially when those prejudices and stigmas are fueled so easily by such comments. To be frank Mr. Lambert, gay people are not weak. We are not sex crazed lunatics, or borderline pedophiles which I do not doubt some of your colleagues would hint at. We are people. We are Americans. And we are just as dynamic and diverse as our fellow strait neighbors. we have jobs, pay our taxes, and god willing, have a loving partner whom we cherish, and a family we love and hold dear. If anyone is reprobate, if anyone is a disgrace to THEIR party it is you sir! You have not only fueled the prejudice and the stigma to your listeners, but have once again tainted any sense of stability or rationale in the Republican Party! With all due respect, which there is little of, if you were to say that sickening, revolting comment to my face, and danced around like a fairy mocking those whom are different, those who love and feel any more or less than you, I would have punched you smack in the face! Your show goes into nothing of the plight of gay people. The skyrocketing suicide rate of young gay teens rejected by their family, their friends, their church. You turn a blind eye to the growing number of homeless teens there now are wandering our streets getting mixed up in drugs, or prostitution to just afford a meager meal. You refuse to acknowledge the death of Seaman August Provost, an openly gay African American sailor who was shot to death in a guard shack in camp pendalton. Instead of being a voice for equality and humanity. One for all people and being a leader and a voice for all peoples, you instead resort to blind ignorance, and prejudice stemmed from your own ignorance, and lack of understanding or compassion toward others. Simply put, you should not have to give an apology, because such comments and childish remarks tipped in venom should never have been spewed from your lips period. And now because of prodding by your higher ups you give a watered down comment out of force rather than sincerity, not even condemning such a remark you expect the slate to be wiped clean? Guess again. Before you open your mouth and your warped mind attempts to connect the dots to make another cynical and cutting remark. Remember that someone may very well give you a call on your birthday and call you a "faggot". Good Day Mr. Lambert...
Oh and FYI I just submitted a complaint to the FCC Mr. Lambert. The people have spoken, we are tired of your homophobic garbage being spewed on the airwaves...
To all who are posting here- Come and let us reason together. One of the many bumper stickers I see is "Hatred is not a family value". I wonder; is that only for my family or does it include yours? Is it not a fair thing to ask, that each of us practice what we preach? You don't want to be painted with a broad brush- how about you doing the same? Stop the attacks on the republican party and Christians. By attacking them you are guilty of the exact same thing you accuse Doug of. And the funny thing is, that there are those within these 2 groups that support you. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. That seems a bit ungrateful to me. Are you all so far above reproach that you can be so free with your comments? I could only wish that I was that perfect. Until that day, I will offer what I look for- forgiveness. I am not a perfect person- neither are any of you. Lastly; Many of you believe in restorative justice for murderers and rapists. How about some for Doug?
Doug, You're a fat, ugly f*cking pig! Yeah, take a good look at yourself in the mirror...You're FAT. Really f*cking FAT!!! Like gross fat. Like makes me want to vomit, fat. Oops, Sorry..."Being human, and an honest person that is used to freely speaking my mind, my passion got the best of me."
Don, I like the direction you're going... to a point, at least. I appreciate the value you place on civil discourse and mutual respect. But perhaps you can try to understand the other position for a second. Those Christians who oppose GLBT equality often complain about a double standard when it comes to "hatred". What they don't understand is that the animosity they are experiencing is not hate, but anger. The anger is the direct result of the tendence of some religious people (Christian or otherwise) to try to force others to conform to the rules of their religion through the legislative and social denial of secular civil liberties toward GLBT people. Again, I'm talking about SECULAR civil liberties. No gay person will tell a conservative religious person that they should be forced to attend gay pride parades and volunteer for PFLAG. But as long as we live in a country that (thank God) has a separation between church and state, everyone (including religious people) has a responsibility to respect the civil liberties and human rights of their fellow citizens. This responsibility has, in recent years especially, been pointedly disregarded by religious conservatives... ignoring the fact that plenty of their fellow believers in other denominations would disagree strongly with how they're treating their GLBT brothers and sisters. So when religious conservatives find themselves on the receiving end of animosity from GLBT people, it's not because gay folks hate them for being religious, or even for thinking gay people are gross. They get angry because that the political process, motivated by religion-based bigotry (yes, it's bigotry), has very often caused a restriction of their secular civil liberties. The oppressed are not obligated to be tolerant toward their own oppressors, even if that oppression is based on a Biblically justifiable but no longer socially acceptable bias. Religious conservatives think we're all going to burn in hell, and maybe they're right... who knows... but as long as we're here on this Earth, and as long as we live in America, we deserve the same secular civil and human rights as the most fervent Baptist.
Skip, you are off point and trying to use a smokescreen to cover up the real issue. The fact that Lambert was fired was the right decision. You are complicit as well. The two of you acting like ignorant frat boys has created a lot of trouble for the station. You should be reprimanded and then you should tender your resignation post haste for being part of this.
Oh, and to the poster above who thinks the comments were made "on film"....uh, that's funny. So I'm guessing you made your comments above by writing them down on paper and sending them in via US Mail....or maybe carrier pigeon?
I'm really sorry that after the broadcast--though still livestreaming via this website, which may or may not fall under FCC purview, though I doubt it--you screwed up big time, Doug. I had listened to the WEMJ broadcast last Saturday as has been my habit for several years now. The show has just kept getting better and better. It truly is a difficult time to be a conservative, esp. seeing the Granite State rapidly becoming a clone of its neighbors in such short order. I think it is unfair that you're being punished just short of putting you in chains for a comment, not made on the airwaves, in the absence of the extenuating circumstance of your hundreds of hours you've accrued on the air. Doesn't that count for something? Or do we need to be milquetoast NPR all the time? That's no fun. Those of us who have listened to that voice probably have a better idea of who you are than participants in a blog storm. A similar situation occurred to the late David Brudnoy at WBZ in Boston, and that was his defense. It makes sense. Put it in the larger perspective. Give someone a mic and over time, sooner or later, something egregious will be emitted from his or her mouth. It's called putting one's foot in it. Over those several hundreds of hours I have garnered more than a clue into your psyche that a throw-away stupid comment can: you are a decent man who happens to be conservative. The two tend to go together as Arthur Brooks's research has indicated. I know the truth. Skip knows the truth. You'll know who you're real friends are. And out of this sorry episode you may emerge a better man. Those attacking you for your gay slur who, in the process, attack you using offensive personal attacks don't strike me as credible as they otherwise could be. Calling you fat or a redneck racist...we have a President whose beloved pastor called us worse. But trying to purify the public discourse by simultaneously toxifying it is a curious state of affairs. I will miss your and Skip's absence on the Saturday morning New Media program. There'll now be no more reason for me to listen to that station. I hope you will be heard from again. I want to mention that by these standards Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be verboten from the national stage--and they aren't. Okay, hymietown? Or Freddie's Fashion Mart, anyone? I hope we continue to permit redemption, even from those whose opinions we might not agree with. That's a mark of personal decency and civilized behavior. Your comments have gone a long way in showing me that you're taking the blame and striving to be a better person. As is the task of us all. We are all linked by our shortcomings.
Milkman- I would say that you pass an awful lot of judgments in your comments. If you would re read your comments, you will see that you are trying to paint me into a corner. By doing so, you are violating my rights of free speech, association, religion, education of my children, etc...... You are also saying that I must march to your tune, your way or I am a hater. With respect- You are completely wrong! Like you, I do not have to support anyone that I fundamentally disagree with. That does not make either one of us haters. That is freedom of association. You vote your sexuality, I vote my faith. Whats the difference? For all of the hating that you say has been directed against gays, may I respectfully direct you to those who have been harassed simply for supporting the marriage amendment in California. Would you like for me to research that side of things and post the numerous links to reported incidents here? I can if you'd like. Personally, I don't see the need, but I will if you insist. We all need to stop being disingenuous here! A lot of people have been wronged on both sides. Just look at some of the remarks above. You have the ability to help stop the hate. But do you have the courage to?
Brent: > so what about those of us that DIDN'T use offensive personal attacks? you say nothing about the substance of his hate speech and his stupefying little 'dance' to press his point home even further, you say nothing of his 'and i meant it' which TO ME, says a hell of a lot more about the man, than some legalese the station made him say. what about his racist comments vis-a-vis Wanda Sykes? being a conservative is one thing, being a racist homophobe is another, and don't even start to tell me it was an isolated instance or he didn't mean it. HE SAID HE MEANT IT. that is why we are here, that is why he was fired from the station and from his print gigs. THAT is what he should be thinking about right now. now i just wonder if he'll be looking to the current government he so despises for a handout. will unemployment insurance be as hard for him to swallow now that he needs it as it was when it was just the people with their hand out? is there a Fox affiliate in NH? he'll be welcomed there with open arms. and again, i think a man would have come on this blog and defended himself instead of leaving it up to others. but case closed. time to move on to the next bigot. it's not like they are hard to find these days.
Don - Exactly how am I preventing you from speaking your mind, associating with anyone you wish, educating your children, or exercising your religion? Yes, I think your views on marriage and GLBT issues in general are prejudiced... but I don't think you should go to jail for it or be silenced. You don't need to try to impress me with incident reports of anti-religious harassment, because in that game the gay guy will always ALWAYS win. (Please... "the hating that you say has been directed against gays"... are you serious?) You seem to be missing the point. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from criticism. Freedom of religion does not mean freedom to enact legislation to force others to conform to your particular sect's beliefs. Again, we're dealing with CIVIL rights here. I fully support your right to think we're all going to hell, to call us faggots, to refuse to recognize our relationships as equal to your own. Bigotry is a personal choice (unlike being gay). But please don't pretend that you're some sort of victim. Your concept of "stopping the hate" seems to be for us to roll over and allow religious zealots to set the rules without regard to the civil rights of nonbelievers. You want courage? Try living your life openly and honestly surrounded by people who would like nothing more than to see you silenced or dead. I'm starting to suspect that your pretty rhetoric about love and respect has little to do with either, and more to do with just "agreeing to disagree". No. There is no room to "agree to disagree" when it comes to my equal humanity and equal civil rights. You either think I'm equal to you, or you don't. You clearly don't. And that makes you...... no, I won't say it. You know deep down what it means. Do you have the courage to face that?
Civil rights are what society, as a whole, say that they are. Yours, like mine, can be removed or modified by majority vote of Congress. If that is not so, then why is that gun owners must always beat back gun control and elect people that support their rights- even though the 2nd Amendment guarantees it? Isn't that what the gay community has done in the last election? Of coarse! If you are to be treated equally before a civil government, are polygamous people allowed the same civil rights? How about those that say they love animals? Do they all have the same rights? Where do you draw the line? How can you draw any lines, based upon your own arguments? Lines for behavior and conducting business are drawn by society using laws. Laws are, by their very nature, moral. They say that this is right and that is wrong. It has always been this way down through the ages. Pagans, Christians, Buddhists, Hindu's, etc... All have drawn lines within society to regulate everything. So- the only question you and I are discussing is who's values we are going to use and where the lines will be drawn. Nothing more. Lastly, yes I am one of the victims. I saw my 5 year old daughter being indoctrinated in public schools with values contrary to biblical teaching. I had no rights and was considered an extremest because I wanted my daughter raised with my values, not theirs. This is happening all across America and the gay community supports it. They call it teaching tolerance- I say it is nothing less than indoctrination of our children. How dare you support that! So, get off of your high horse, pal. I don't need any lectures from the self righteous!
Aaaaand here we go. The sad and pathetic arguments of bigots who desperately want to find a reasonable excuse for their bigotry. Let me tell you something, Don. Gay people are not animals. Gay couples are not the same thing as those who are polygamous. Laws are not, in and of themselves, moral. Was the Dred Scott decision moral? What about the laws in Colorado that were so virulently homophobic that the Supreme Court struck them down? Lawrence v Texas? What if the majority wanted to ban Christianity? Would that be moral? No, no, no, and no. Civil and human rights should never be up to a vote of the mob. I deserve them because I'm human and an American, and I don't give a good flying fuck whether you think I'm going to hell or not. I can't imagine what they were teaching your 5 year old daughter... and I don't care. It's your responsibility as a parent to make sure she is exposed to the teachings you support, and if you don't like how the public school does it you're welcome to home school or send her to a religious institution. I don't indoctrinate children, and neither does anyone else. And as far as a "high horse" is concerned, wasn't it you who was blathering on about "stopping the hate"? So much for your self-righteous bullshit... everybody should love everybody as long as they believe what I think they should. We don't have to like each other, but we do have to respect each other's equal human and civil rights. I will do that for you, even if you don't do it for me... because I know that the tide of history is moving in my direction. Enjoy your irrelevance. Bye now...
