Meet The New Press - Podcast for 11/07/09 - After the show
During the last segment of the show today, we played the audio (here - second hour, last segment) of Mark Levin addressing the TEA Party crowd assembled in DC; I found the transcript here at Human Events:
LEVIN: What the hell is this? (tossing health care bill to the ground)
First of all, I want to thank you all for coming out here. Many of you travelled from all over the country at great expense. And we thank you.
By the way, to the press here -- this is what this is about. Write this down: liberty. Just wanted you all to know.
Now you see this building here? You own that building!
The people who are in the building today? They reject limited constitutional government. They have spent trillions and trillions of dollars that do not belong to them. They have bankrupted our children. They have driven unemployment to nearly 10 percent. They are destroying small businesses. They are nationalizing large businesses. They don’t believe in private property rights. They’re taking a wrecking ball to this magnificent society. And that’s the first nine months.
Now I know they haven’t read that bill, because I know they can’t write in the first place.
Not you (points to Republican House members in attendance). I mean them.
But they’re not done. Having ruined the banking system, the auto industry, the housing market, energy production, the education system, having robbed the Social Security Trust Fund, the Medicare Trust Fund, and the Highway Trust Fund -- now they tell us to trust them.
Do you trust them?
Now they have their sights on the mother of all entitlements. They want to control you, they want to control your children, your parents, your doctor, your nurse -- you in the press, you getting all this down? This is brilliant stuff.
These are patriot citizens out here and I’m tired of them being smeared, to be perfectly honest with you.
And we’re not going anywhere.
Now they want to control health care. They want to control what kind of insurance you can purchase. They want to control if you can purchase insurance. They want to decide what benefits you can and cannot have. They want to decide how much you’re going to have to pay.
And they want to ration care. And the bottom line is they want to play God and decide who lives and who dies.
That’s pretty scary. And for them when they’re asked if they have authority under the Constitution they laugh. To hell with the Constitution they say. To hell with individual liberty and private property; to hell with people who want nothing to do with this, which is most of us. But not so fast. We’re not ready for this.
(Crowd chants, "Vote them out.") Vote them out, he says.
Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. They don’t know what they’re in for next November do they?
Alright. It’s a press conference. Doesn’t much matter. They won’t get it right anyway. Not all of you.
The politicians in this country, some of them not all of them, we need to be discerning, but a lot of the politicians in this country are drunk with power.
(Crowd chants, "Vote them out.") They want me to cut to the chase. So here’s the chase. I want to quote Ronald Reagan.
Because he could say thing the rest of us could never say. He said, “Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same. Or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States when men were free.”

You know, after listening to Bob Giuda and to Mark again, it is not a far ground to cover to end up exactly where the Founding Fathers did not want us to be. They saw that Government controlled the lives of their subjects - at the time of our Founding, individual Freedom and Liberty were the radical ideas - ideals on which a government had never been based upon before. Since recorded history, the norm has been rule by the "strong man" and his cohorts - the King and the elite Nobility.
It morphed its form in the recent history - the terms and names changed even to the extent of being called Presidents and Legislatures - but dictators and tyrants all. Much of the world, while nominally considered democratic, are often no more free than the historical norm.
Tyranny is never more than a generation away - and even if it is a "benevolent" government that is pulling the strings, it is still a government that has the strings over our lives rather than we, the people.
Pelosicare - if it passes, our government, for the first time, will throw us in jail for not purchasing a product. While that product, healthcare insurance, may be from a private company, that company can only sell the services that the government authorizes, at the price that power hungry politicians and bureaucrats determine instead of by a free market with a free people.
Free people? Sorry, but I do NOT buy the same definition that the Progressives / Socialists use - they believe that Government makes all the big decisions about the little decisions you are allowed to make. After all, YOU just are not to be trusted to make the right decisions - but THEY can!
Me? TRUE Liberty and TRUE Freedom means being to make any decision that you want, even if it means that you make a bad decision and fall directly on your nose.
Why is that a problem? For me, falling on my nose teaches me not to do what caused me to fall on my nose in the first place - pain hurts but pain can also teach. In their scenario, where they "socialize" the risk in that bad decisions have no painful consequences, there is only one eventual consequence.
Society fails. Freedom REQUIRES self-responsibility - you have to DO something about it!
Get up and do something - go call your Senators and Congressmen and tell them to respect their betters - US!
