Well, here's a bit of snark - yet again from a Democrat Politician
Yeah, so much for civility, for tolerance, for the notion that
they work for us and not us for them!
Caught this at NHPoliticalReport:
Ahead of this week's two day tax summit in Concord, the Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee is lashing out at critics calling them 'conspiracy theorists' for suggesting the summit could lead the way to an income tax.
Almy, the Democrat from Lebanon, has supported an income tax in the past and is chairing the summit taking place Wednesday and Thursday.
I'll say. I would think that a jury would be unanimous in convicting on the charge of "income tax in the first degree" coupled with a charge of "aggravated assault with a sales tax".
However, methinks that she may have tried to buy the jury on this one...
Conservative groups, like Cornerstone Policy Research and the state Republican Party, have been highly critical of the summit which will include liberal economists as well as some conservatives.
In an email back to right-leaning NowHampshire.com publisher Pat Hynes, Almy said her position is that liberals should be included in the summit because the Bill of Rights includes freedom of expression.
It is a must-read for the Almy quotes. Read it here.
So, of course, I did go over to NOW!Hampshire, but not before a GREAT line by Kevin Smith of Cornerstone Policy Research had probably the best line, still at NHPoliticalReport:
Ironically, she is sounding an awful lot like the 'balloon boy's' dad simply because people will not buy her story that she really has no hidden agenda to see an income tax in New Hampshire, despite her long track record of being an ardent income tax supporter."
Translation - her trial balloon is about to go splat!
Back to NOW!Hampshire:
The Democratic Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee is calling conservative critics of this week’s House revenue seminar “conspiracy theorists” and discounting their concerns about a controversial group that will participate in the summit.
Susan Almy tells NowHampshire.com that the left-leaning Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) has every right to participate in the seminar because, “The US Bill of Rights has a very firm commitment to freedom of expression.”“Do you have no respect for either our Bill of Rights or a balance in speeches,” continued Almy. “The legislature is only allowed to listen to the right wing?”
And the Bill of Rights has....what? to do with additional taxation? Usually magicians have a great slight of hand...but back in court, this objection would be overruled as "not to the point".
Like many on the Left (and sadly, many politicians in general), she shows no conceptual grasp of what the Bill of Rights is or how it would apply. No one is censoring anyone on the Left's Right to Free Speech - what is being questioned is her attempt to "direct the jury" and not present all of the evidence. But then again, fairness (and frugality) have nothing in common with adding a higher financial burden to the citizens of NH.
Almy is responding to concerns raised by Cornerstone Policy Research, a conservative think tank, and others, who raised alarm bells last week over ITEP’s inclusion in the seminar, which many conservatives believe is an endeavor to desensitize state tax writers to the idea of an income tax in New Hampshire.
According to Cornerstone’s Kevin Smith, ITEP’s “funding comes from far left organizations such as the Tides Foundation, which is funded in part by billionaire and left-wing activist, George Soros, along with [the] founder of the embattled organization ACORN, Wade Rathke. Other funders of ITEP include: the Ben and Jerry Foundation and the Streisand Foundation.”
ITEP also openly urges the legislature to pass an income tax.
My take? Anyone else notice that George Soros is the Sugar Daddy of the Left? Anyone else notice that this might be to foster policies that put this nation's fiscal well-being at risk? And if you don't know, much of his fortune has been made in ruining the economies of other countries so as to pluck money from currency manipulations.
When asked about ITEP’s controversial connections, Almy shot back, “Conspiracy theorists. [I]t is not newsworthy except by FOX ‘News’. I do not have time to research and point out to you whatever wealthy people are paying for the Tax Foundation and ALEC [two other groups speaking at the revenue seminar], but they do not subsist without such help.”
My, my - has she no better comeback than "Fox News"? And at the same time, slam many of her fellow NH citizens who watch that network? As if Keith Olbermann is a paragon of "fair and balanced" on
“My apologies, but are you old enough to have heard of the McCarthy trials,” Almy continued. “They trapped a lot of good people who were too decent to forgo the basic liberties our forefathers fought for, and destroyed a lot of careers of people this nation needed. And they finally went so far that good people everywhere rose up and challenged them.”
Sure - notice the move to Alinsky - demonize, ridicule. She realizes that NO ONE is going to believe her story, given her past and words. This is merely going through the motions - nothing more but nothing less.
...The Ways and Means revenue seminar scheduled for Oct. 22nd and 23rd has been controversial from the moment Speaker Terie Norelli first mentioned it as an “economic summit” to confront the state’s budget woes to the Portsmouth Herald. Republicans immediately accused Democrats of trying to use the seminar as a Trojan horse to impose an income tax.
...For her part, Almy has always considered the Republicans’ charge ridiculous.
“I can’t believe how many right-wing blogs are out there accepting the UL’s [Union Leader’s] and PH [Portsmouth Herald] editors’ and Republican Party chair’s comments without any fact-checking,” Almy told NowHampshire.com. “I have even had people emailing to yell at me for supporting a sales tax, which I have never done – I simply invited a respected state economist in to talk to us about why an income tax was bad for business, and he said we should consider a sales tax instead.
The proof will be in the jury's verdict - problem is, Almy and her fellow Democrats, having caused their own fiscal crisis here in NH with a desire to bring broadbased taxes to NH, this is a real consequence for NH citizens for the crime by Almy and her ilk for looting their fellow citizens treasure.
