Hell freezes over. Pigs have taken flight. The moon is blue. Corpses have spun. There is a topic on which this Grokster and Blue Hampshire are one!

by Doug

That’s right. I’m perusing the liberal Blue Hampshire blog, our always worthy counterparts on the left, and came across this video put out by New Hampshire Democrats. Now don’t get me wrong, by "worthy counterpart" I mean the ying to the ‘Grok’s yang. We stand poles apart on most issues, especially when it comes to the role of government in our lives, and the funding thereof. Then I watched this posted on the site. Quite frankly, there’s little to disagree with here, save for its negative characterization of our friend Karen Testerman.

While I admit that the sentiments expressed by Kelly Ayotte shown in the video certainly cater to a conservative point of view, I am suspicious as to whether it’s real. Let’s not forget that she told GraniteGrok she would have voted yes on the Sotomayer confirmation had she been in the Senate in Judd Gregg’s place (who voted in the affirmative), despite the strong conservative case that had been made in the contrary.

The other interesting point– one which comes close to home, btw– is what candidate Ayotte says regarding "stimulus" versus what she was saying a scant few months back. Is she REALLY opposed to stimulus now? Is stimulus bad… for everybody else, but ours GOOD? This raises the legitimate question as to whether she will REALLY shrink government, having been a creature of same for many years, or simply pay lip service to such notions? A Nashua Telegraph story appearing today on Drudge reports that that stimulus money created or saved 796 New Hampshire jobs,

with 700 of those state workers who did not have to get laid off thanks to the federal grants

A case CAN be made that, thanks, in part to Kelly Ayotte, government was NOT reduced in cash-strapped New Hampshire. How many of these jobs were in the stimulus-supporting NH Attorney General’s office? "Oh, come on Doug. Aren’t you being a bit hard on Ms. Ayotte?" Perhaps you might view it that way, but what else are we to make of a press release on May 15th proudly announcing this?

CONCORD – Gov. John Lynch and Attorney General Kelly A. Ayotte today encouraged state, county, local and non-profit agencies to apply for criminal justice grants funded through the federal stimulus act. These grants will be administered by the Attorney General’s Office.

The goal of this funding is to assist agencies and non-profits in the criminal justice community impacted by the recession, which will help to preserve and create jobs.

As she says in the video, the stimulus is responsible for "record deficits our children are going to have to pay." If only she had this sentiment back in May. Or back in April. But no, back then, she hungrily lapped up the Washington largesse bankrupting the country– all borrowed from China.

I’m sorry– I want to be able to trust how my potential representatives are going to act once we send them to Washington. America is on the brink. Our liberty and constitutional republic is at stake. I’m not sure Ayotte will have what it takes to do what needs to be done at this critical time in history… Since I’m in tune with Democrats in this post. I’ll close by quoting one– longtime Clinton mouthpiece Lanny Davis–who famously said, "show me the pwoof…" I’m still not ready to buy into the notion that Ayotte is the "right-winger" the Dems think she’ll be. If only it were so.

Okay Doug – but who do you suggest supporting?
    Certainly not Paul-the-missing-person Hodes??
If saying what you need to say is wrong, Hodes don’t ever wanna be right!

Of course I’m not suggesting Hodes. I’m suggesting OTHER potential Republican candidates that HAVEN’T been shoved on us from on high. REAL ones that aren’t crafting an image and persona and “testing” what they should utter to the masses…

Doug first drank the Tausch kool aid but now is drinking Ovides, a man who could not beat a lib at a time when NH was a more conservative state. It is a shame that the grok is helping the Libs smear Ayotte. I will get a good chuckle if Ovide gets the nod and gets creamed by Hodes in 2010.

I never “drank the Tausch kool aid”– I just promoted the excellent message he has been spreading throughout the state. And I see nothing wrong with the Steward Group. As to Ovide, if the scenario Pete lays out comes to pass, it will be because moderate RINOs will have stuck it to him again. I have NOT come out for anybody in this race, yet. I’ve just indicated what I want from whoever gets my vote: the real deal, not someone reinventing themselves for the campaign…

Doug, if you didn’t notice self identifying republicans in NH are at an all time low. What is the point of nominating a far right candidate who doesn’t appease to NH independants. I am willing to give all GOP candidates a chance to be heard and what I see you doing is laying the groundwork for 12 months of daily smears against one person. Maybe you should give the pros and cons for all GOP candidates. As for Tausch this was the guy who donated big bucks to Obama so isn’t it hypocrtical of you to take a swipe at moderate republicans when you yourself are a big fan of him and STEWARD.

I’m glad Fred Tausch is doing what he’s doing, but he has less credibility than Kelly Ayotte on these issues.
He contributed to Obama well after the first bailout vote. That’s far worse than helping NH towns apply for federal grants. And I don’t hold that against him.
Ayotte has been solid on fiscal issues so far. And I’m a big Ovide fan. I couldn’t care less who John Cornyn puts in his press releases, but I’m not going to hold it against a candidate if they can get some fundraising help out of DC. I’m happy to evaluate the candidates on their merits, and I know that DC couldn’t shove a candidate on us if they tried.

I just don’t do phoney. I am quite confident in my position, here. I had a near visceral dislike of Mitt Romney, the first being the fact he “reinvented” himself. Had he run as an east coast style, country club moderate with a great track record in business, I would have bought it… because that’s who he was. I don’t care if we’re talking about a ten cent “grant” here, Grant, if you are opposed to what the stimulus is doing, then that should include all stimulus. Even the goodies. Sorry. I am deeply involved, as you know, with a particular grant locally, in which we have discovered numerous RTK law violations and apparent violations of oversight and duty by the county’s legislative body. And the feds turning a blind eye to the transparency and process rules they so claim to cherish in ARRA. Basically, this is a pin point sliver of the “stimulus” that Ayotte says is bankrupting the future. We went to her office and were rebuffed. (Not to mention her overseeing the turning of a blind eye to a clear misuse of office by our sheriff– but that’s another story. One that questions whether she will slow or speed the fedaral intervention and militarization of local law enforcement) All of this makes up the complete package. As far as getting someone with “moderate” appeal, I’ve been there, done that. I hopped on board the McCain bandwagon, thinking the broad appeal of a softer conservative that stood with the liberals on some issues such as global warming, campaign finance, etc., and what did we get? Saying you’re against stimulus while being in favor of some stimulus that helps your buddies and buys their vote, perhaps, down the road is something I’m going to have to be convinced is right. I don’t see it. I am in an anti-bureaucracy, anti government growth/power mindset. I’m not seeing how Ms. Ayotte represents that. I will eagerly await to be proven wrong.

    Buyer beware
Kelly Ayotte has a glass jaw. Unless she can be adequately protected by her handlers from real debate during the primary and the general election, she may implode.
This is not specious conjecture on my part. During the NH Senate hearings on my death penalty abolition bill, when she had all the aces—the media, the governor’s support as well as that of law enforcement; her voice was shaking. I was, quite frankly, shocked. She gave the impression of vulnerability when crossing a relative non-entity like myself.
