As believed, it was nothing more than a Democrat’s attempt to generate a revenue stream by collectivism

Well, Doug posted about the "horse" bill here and we had a local horse lover, Jean Lavin, on Meet The New Press (podcast here) to talk about a Democrat Rep’s attempt to crassly use horses to "help out the state".

In fact, the local paper, the Citizen, summarized Rep Carla Skinder’s  (D-Cornish) words:

Rep. Skinder, who has seven horses of her own, said her intention was for the horse-owning community to help raise revenues for the state at a time when it is badly needed. She said she felt horse owners represent a community of users and that they could be called upon to help fund state needs such as assistance to the elderly.

Right.  Notice the need to "save" government.  Putting aside the obvious jokes about "do we have to save government?", I had a couple of observations:

  • Look at the motivation – Government first!  We all have to pitch in to save Government!  Right!
  • Saving government?  From itself?  I’ve learned the hard way that you can only "save" people when they are ready to be saved – and only once they have acknowledge they have a problem.  In this case, has NH government (and this clueless Rep) willing to admit it has a spending addiction to be saved from?
  • Gee, that means that Rep. Skinder is an enabler right – has she done anything to help this destructive spending in which even horses have to pay (snicker)?
  • Look any good collectivist liberal of means, thinks nothing to involuntary putting "her" group to service the folly of those that raised spending too much.  After all, it’s only a few cups of coffee a year per horse, right?
  • Umm, speaking of the folly of spending too much – how about ratcheting down spending?  Oh yeah…..naw!
  • Look at the LAME (absolutely LAME!) excuse of weakly trying to justify this money grab – "it’s for the elderly!"

At least it wasn’t this:

Whew – I thought I was going to hear another one of those "It’s for the children" emotional blackmail wails again!
