So, you DON’T think that some want the Fairness Doctrine back?

We haven’t done this for a while; the Dope of the Week trophy has been laying around for a while gathering dust (real easy with the wood stove going all the time with temperatures in the single digits here in central NH – nothin’ but dust-creator, that).  But, we’ve taken it off the shelf and spiffed it up real purty like, cause this winner is a real loser!  From our friend, Maggie, from Thurber’s Thoughts, we present someone who cannot wait for the censorship to begin again via the Fairness Doctrine:

Mayor Finkbeiner demonstrates his ignorance – again

In defending himself against the planned recall effort launched by a group of business people (Take Back Toledo), Mayor Carty Finkbeiner made the following claim, as reported by our daily paper:

"Mr. Finkbeiner accused WSPD-AM, 1370, of violating the Fairness Doctrine in not allowing him to respond to what he said were "vicious, one-sided diatribes" over the last three years, and said he would ask Congress to investigate WSPD."

Poor guy.  First he makes a fool of himself by kicking the Marines out of Toledo and now this (plus a whole bunch of other stuff), he has made a laughingstock of himself and is dragging Toledo with him.

Apparently, our mayor doesn’t know that the Fairness Doctrine was repealed and is no longer in effect, even though some of his fellow Democrats want to bring it back – maybe for reasons just like this.

As for the rest of the mayor’s comments, he takes the usual personal swipes at the individuals involved with Take Back Toledo, saying the named individuals are only interested in power and wealth, though this would be characterized by some as the pot calling the kettle black…

If you can’t quite remember, the Fairness Doctrine used to rule the radio waves; instead of leveling the field for opposing sides, it served to silence both.  Democrats hate the idea that Ronald Reagan took it out of service and it allowed conservatives, faced with liberal print and TV media, a place to gather.  Finkbeiner shows how bad that doctrine could be to take away the right to hear the arguments.

And for those Liberals that don’t like this saying that conservatives have taken over the airwaves, my message is this: find a station, raise the money, and purchase the airtime just like the rest of us.  Otherwise, stop complaining.
