Reverse Racism in Chicago politics

by Skip

Speaking of entitlements, now we see where someone believes that the Constitution mandates race as a function of being a Senator -  oops, my bad!

But I have seen this before, where someone of a race / creed / party / name-something-else that held some elected / appointed position just HAS to be replaced by somebody just like them.  Or at least Laura Washington, who penned the column below, believes OR ITS RACIST!

How dare politicians decide to hold an election where whites can "steal" a "black seat" away (emphasis mine)?  So, with thinking like this, how long do you think it Dr. King’s Dream will really come true?

Black leaders see Senate seat being hijacked Recommend

Bye bye, black Senate seat! The political blackbirds are singing a swan song for the hopes of keeping a U.S. Senate seat in African-American hands. The Rod Blagojevich implosion may have dealt that cause a fatal blow.

This is a great show of the Liberal mentality – what’s ours is ours – and you can’t have it!  Oops – isn’t that what they accuse Conservatives of – not sharing?

Last week’s stunning pay-to-play charges led to calls around the nation for a special election to choose President-elect Barack Obama’s successor.

So tell me,

what’s wrong with democracy and elections?  You know, that idea that you seem to think is just so outdated of letting the people decide who should represent them?  It certainly would take the cronyism out of it, wouldn’t it?  And given what the rest of America has seen with the Blago-mess, I’d rather see the people pick instead of tempting those that would appoint…

That possibility has provoked outrage among black community leaders and politicians. Not so fast, they are saying.

Last month, the Concerned Clergy of Illinois demanded that the governor appoint a "qualified" African American "who can fill this vacancy and who has the capacity to be re-elected when [Obama's] term ends in 2010." The problem, as I wrote then, is that black leaders were at odds on who should get the nod.

Right – nothing more than influence peddling.  This is nothing more than the elite scurrying around to have whom they believe would best represent their the peoples’ best interests, right?

[snip]

White voters don’t and won’t accept the idea that America and Illinois need — and deserve — a black senator. (When the Senate was all white, they never complained).

There is that entitlement mentality again!!! And let’s even put aside the racial overtones here for the time being (which is certainly bad enough).  Ms. Washington, in real life, NOBODY deserves anything!  A lot of times, even when you have put in the time, sweat, and tears working on something (regardless of race, creed, or national origin), you STILL don’t get what you want.  That’s life.  In this case, a black person no more DESERVES that seat than a white, a brown, a tan, a red, or a purple with green polka dots person.  Once elected positions come under the sway of affirmative action (or in this case, a total sense of entitlement), democracy is dead.

Until the race goggles are thrown away, this isn’t going to stop anytime soon….

Black folks need The Big O to endorse the concept of keeping the seat. That’s not going to happen.

And I really do hope The Big O doesn’t – democracy is not just for when one wants it and not when it is inexpedient – it should be always regardless of the circumstances.

Unless Jackson can vanquish the cloud of suspicion, the seat may be history.

No, the seat is not history – it will still be there and the person that fills it will be the Junior Senator from Illinois as it is for all 50 states.

Just as it should be.

Regardless of the skin color of the person that occupies it.

Just as it should be.
