I have a habit of noting good posts that I see when I surf around the ‘Net and emailing them to myself. The good thing is that I don’t lose them. The bad thing is that I accumulate a LOT of them that reflect my values. Like many bloggers out there, I’m betting that there is a lot out there that you would love to bring to the attention of your readers and comment upon than what you have time to do (so much stuff, so little time….sigh).
Such is one of my friend, John Hawkins, TownHall Columns. If you think that bigger government is better, go look at it. If you think that a more limited government is better, go look at it. You’ll both learn something:
Are those all bad things? No. Should we immediately roll all those policies back? No. But, what we should do is recognize that it is extremely unhealthy for the country to have the government doing so many things that people used to do for themselves — for the same reason it’s unhealthy to have thirty-year old men still living with their parents.
With adults, we recognize that it’s a good idea for people to cut the apron strings, leave the nest, and live their own lives, but no American can get away from the all-smothering love of "mother government."
So, if you are a Mama’s boy, you’ll love an expanding government. For those of us that prefer Mom slowly fading into the background as you mature, you’ll pick up some debating points.
I will take issue with John on one point – you can always cut the ties with Mama. Take it to the stereotypical Mother-in-law level – it seems that you can NEVER get rid of her! Ugh….
