Sarah Palin, Joe Biden, and the debate.....

Well, the debate is on-going - only 20 minutes in.  As a Conservative, I really want to see Sarah do well.  When I saw this over at Betsy's Page, I knew that this is why she is liked by so many in such a short amount of time:

One of the positives that those who like Sarah Palin have been touting is that she is like an average American. We know people like this and can imagine talking to her. She seems to have lived experiences that the common American can relate to. Here is one writer, Aaron Goldstein, who crystallizes this argument.
I am not suggesting they necessarily agree with all her policy positions or point of view. What I am suggesting is the people are with Sarah Palin because they know Sarah Palin. We can see Sarah Palin as our mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister or sister’s friend (perhaps even her really hot friend.) We can see Sarah Palin as someone we would like to introduce to our friends and bring home to meet our parents. We can see Sarah Palin running our local diners, hardware stores, the neighborhood bank and our union shop floors. We can see Sarah Palin as a down to earth person who is slightly more ambitious and hard working than the rest of us and she knows it. But she knows that doesn’t make her better than you and you know it too.

Impressions:

I really do wish that they'd both answer the question that was asked of each.  You can bet, as a blogger, I'd pursue that

I am disappointed that NEITHER of them, on the opening question, blamed government (think CRA and Freddie and Fannie, and undone government oversight up and down the line).  I expected that of Biden - disappointed in Sarah. Why the constant bashing of capitalism - without it, the middle class would not be the middle class.

Taxes to be fair?  C'mon!  Why won't EITHER of them say (Sarah) or admit (Biden) that companies DON"T PAY TAXES!  People do.  Taxes are merely a cost of doing business.  Don't believe me?  Ask a business owner - ask your boss.  Ask your acccountant; if you don't have one, go ASK one!

Both are speaking well and smoothly.

You can see and hear, and feel, the difference between the philosophies (e.g, taxes is fair).

Good shot - Sarah nails the "tell one thing to one group, another to another!"

Biden prattling on about Big Oil profits - what about the Big Government Taxes paid (about 4 X their profit)?

So Biden wants government to adjust the interest rate AND THE PRINCIPLE of mortgages?  Is he out of his freakin' mind?

Sarah - you are getting ANNOYING!!!   ANSWER THE FLIPPIN' QUESTION!!!

You know, I bet her handlers didn't force her to read conservative blogs for a couple of hours a day.....do that, she'd know a lot more......and speak a lot better about a lot of the stuff.  Biden....just saying what he wants to.....is it the truth or just more Bidenism?

Climate Change?  I want Biden to PROVE that he knows that Climate Change is solely man made?  At least Sarah

China and coal?  What does Biden want us to do - spend the cash to develop the clean coal technology and then just GIVE IT TO THE CHINESE?  That's what it seems - hey, they're spending 700 Billion, what's a few more?  Or is he going FORCE them to adopt it (er, like how)?

Aw crap, they both support Cap and Trade....nothing but a revenue stream for government.....

Well, Biden goes against the Catholic church again - abortion AND gay marriage.  At least Sarah wants to protect heterosexual marriage - one man and one woman.

Iraq end - Sarah - we have to win.  We cannot afford to lose against AQ - we cannot quit.  Biden - retreat.   Biden - we will end the war (on a timeline); Sarah defines victory as getting the Iraqis on their feet and functional FIRST.

Iran or Pakistan - which is more dangerous? Biden - Pak can hit Israel with the Bomb now; Iran cannot.  Note to Biden - Pakistan's government has NOT threatened to wipe Israel out; Iran's President has done so multiple times.

Note to Biden - Obama DID say he'd sit down with Achmadimiot and talk.  Regardless of what you want to say!

Of course, Germany, UK, and France have been "talking" with Iran for 5 years - what has been accomplished so far (answer - bupkis!)

Palestinian problem - two state solution?  Sarah is a big supporter of Israel - good for her.  I'm not sure of what Biden believes in.  He rightly says that Hamas would be a big problem.  Hezbullah is a big problem too.  But what is he going to do?  Oh, diplomacy!  Like that has worked during the last, um, 40 years?

It's 5 to 10pm -> I see no Sarahcuda coming out, going for the throat that has been exposed so often.

"Will America support your interventionalism, Senator?" He talks about Bosnia and stopping the centuries old strifes there....hmmm, how come that same argument doesn't work in Iraq? Darfur - sure, we can just go in and impose ourselves in a no-fly zone in Chad?  Er, let's not forget that, in Iraq, we were invited to help defend and free Kuwait and imposed the no fly zone

LIne - Biden - can we do so?  International - when genocide is happening we should go in as that nation is rogue (er, wasn't that happening in Iraq?  Anybody remember what Saddam was doing?).  If YOU ARE GOING TO USE AN ARGUMENT IN ONE PLACE, YOU HAVE TO BE EQUAL HANDED ALL OVER.

HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED, other than Sarah's initial remark, THAT GOVERNMENT'S ACTIONS ARE NEVER QUESTIONED?  Nothing on if government is bad, corruption in government, stupid regulations and laws making life harder for citizens?  Other than, Sarah just saying government has to get out of the way (er, how about some concrete examples).

Education - arrgghh - Sarah's throwing money at schools.  School choice?  Charters?  Homeschool?   Standards?  What would they do?!?!  Unions?  Admin bloat?

OK, I deliberately gave up on some stuff.   But this last issue, change?  Biden basically made us ALL out to be victims....gee, how can life exist without the helping hand of government.  You know, the way he puts it, we just are not able to do things for ourselves or for our families.  I'm tired of being treated like I was a child....
