Yet another Dem saying “I SUPPORT THE TROOPS!”

Certainly this campaign season has yet again brought out the deficiencies of when hard core Liberal Dems have to come out and say they support the troops. Hate their mission, but support the troops. I keep wondering about that, as even the Eldest Son said (from Iraq) that this was a good thing and that we had to finish the job. How can you support the troops when you make fun of their mission and say it’s the wrong thing? Not a smooth move.

What’s worse is when you try to make it believable. So, Tim Mahoney, US Rep (D-FL) landed himself in a bit of a pickle when he tried to pander using this veteran on his flier:

“Honoring Those Who Defend Our Freedom.”

The flier touts Mahoney’s record on veterans’ issues.

Really? Does he know of what he speaks? Apparently not. I’m no military guy, but those didn’t strike me as being U.S. medals. Guess I was right – they are Soviet military medals. Hey, Mahoney must share his fact checkers with Obama!

Ken Spain, press secretary for the National Republican Congressional Committee:

“Is Tim Mahoney’s commitment to our veterans so shallow and superficial that he can’t even tell the difference between an American veteran and one who fought for Communism in Joseph Stalin’s Red Army?”

Ouch!

Has nothing to do with the stupidity of a politician (in this case, a Democrat). Even you must admit, given the topic of the post, you asking me to acknowledge this is absolutely irrelevant.
I will say, though, those medals may well have been earned because of the stupidity of two undemocratic despots thinking they could outsmart the other. And then used the blood of their countrymen to play a bad game of chess with real people.

Skip: I agree about the stupidity of the politician, which is cleary beyond debate. My sole point is to acknowledge that the gentlemen did more than “fight for communism” and, like others in the Red Army, arguably spared American lives by destroying 11 German divisions on te Eastern Front to every one in the West.

My point – your prattling about Communist soldiers still doesn’t matter in this regard. Trust me, those Soviets were not fighting the Nazis just to save American lives. They were fighting for their own country – not ours. Thus, your attempt at some type of equivalence doesn’t matter; it is irrelevant.
What does matter is that the Democrats hold our OWN military in such disdain and are so disconnected from them that the Dems can’t even recognize common US medals. Or recognize when medals are not as they present a sham of “being for the troops”. Your attempt to shuffle the issue is also silly.

Nor did I so much as imply that any soldier in the Red Army fought to save American lives, merely that the collpase of the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front had among its consequences that there were fewer Germans to face the Allies on the Western Front. As usual you paint with way too broad a brush. I suppose Democrats like James Webb, Daniel Inouye, Max Cleland et al. have nothing but diddain for the military while Bush and Cheney, who did all they could to avoid putting themselves in harm’s way, are true patriots. Let’s stop the name calling. Neither side wins. Again you have confirmed that Twain was right about patriotism.
