When men were men [er, when Republicans were Republicans] and our enemies were scared…

We would be remiss if we let this day go by without mention. Better late than…

Reagan at Brandenburg

[B]efore I close, to say one word. I have read, and I have been questioned since I’ve been here about certain demonstrations against my coming. And I would like to say just one thing, and to those who demonstrate so. I wonder if they have ever asked themselves that if they should have the kind of government they apparently seek, no one would ever be able to do what they’re doing again… Ronald Reagan. June 12th, 1987.

Star Parker reminds us of the courage the Gipper showed in delivering his now famous speech in the face of the naysayers of his time (and now)– the establishment that only knew (and knows) business as usual:

How has the Republican Party managed to thoroughly squander the commanding heights achieved under Reagan’s leadership?

Unfortunately, courage and leadership are rare. Reagan understood and was committed to what this country is uniquely about – traditional values and individual freedom.

Most come to Washington for career, not to serve. With Reagan’s departure, the risk-averse, career-motivated establishment, which quaked at the idea of the president publicly challenging the Soviet Union or taking principled stands on anything, began to take over.

Read the entire piece about the pressure brought to bear against President Reagan’s asking Mr. Gorbachev to tear down his wall. Can you imagine how different history might have been had the president taken their advice?
