  • This week brought the latest in the saga that is the mess known as Belknap County government. State representatives Judith Reever and Beth Arsenault, both Democrats from Laconia, join us for a review. We’ll discuss the ongoing arrogance of the majority Republicans in the Belknap County Convention as they continue to thwart the public’s complete access to the various matters in play. We’ll discuss the latest appointment process used to fill the vacant sheriff’s position and the lateness of the annual report and the lack of any audit or financial information for the county. Should the convention call for an official investigation?

  • Grant Bosse, seeking the Republican nomination for NH’s Second Congressional District seat presently held by Democrat Paul Hodes checks in to discuss this week’s landmark ruling on the Second Amendment by the US Supreme Court.

  • Doug and Skip will discuss Monday’s school board meeting where the International Baccalaureate Programme took center stage. One of the school board members described those in opposition by noting, "the ugly American is alive and well." Really?

  • When I emailed the link around to the post about the "Family Planning for Teens", I got a response suggesting we try to get Lamar Collins to come on and talk about it and related matters. The story is about the poster I found on my local Post Office’s community bulletin board (next to the "wanted" posters) advertising a teens-only "family planning" clinic that offers, among other things, taxpayer- subsidized pregnancy tests, contraceptives, and abortion pills to teenagers at "affordable rates". It helpfully notifies prospective underage "clients" that "parental consent is not required."  Lamar told me in an email earlier that when it comes to the types of activities driving the need for such "services", that

These decisions are life changing and need the input of caring adults (parents/guardians).  We do our youth a disservice by allowing them (teenagers) with incompletely developed prefrontal cortex’s (the prefrontal cortex is the seat of cause and effect.  It governs rational decision making and is incomplete until approx 25) to make decisions based on the leading of the amygdala (the amygdala is the seat of emotions.  Because the prefrontal cortex in teens is incompletely developed, the decision making impulse is diverted to the amaygdala).
  • According to his website, Lamar Collins (Coach) started his career in the U.S. Army.  When his enlistment was completed, he attended the University of Mary Hardin Baylor to become a teacher.  After teaching and coaching for several years, he was asked to help with an abstinence education program.  His ability to connect with individuals of various ages, ethnicities and education levels led to him to be a highly sought after speaker in many venues.  He now travels the country speaking primarily at student assemblies (3rd grade-college), teacher trainings, and non profit organizations.  He also speaks at churches and commencement ceremonies.  He strongly believes in the relational component of education.  He often reminds teachers that, "it is impossible to be educational, without first being relational."  Helping youth and adults understand how to develop and build on relationships is his unique gift to humanity. He travels to schools and youth groups throughout the country as part of the Just Say Yes program where he
"uses real life scenarios to address issues teens face every day.  He breaks down the struggle into its core issues of self control, peer pressure, and hormones.  Then, he teaches them how to make the right decisions. "

Hopefully the people that are responsible for what we are bringing to our local teenagers under the guise of "helping" them will be tuned in.

Wow! It all starts at 9AM EST Saturday. Tune in if you’re in Central NH at NewsTalk 1490AM WEMJ or live on the ‘Net here… The best radio (in our humble opinions) anywhere…
