Hodes – wishful thinking like the rest of the Dems

All we seem to hear from the Dems is that drilling for oil will not solve our energy problems.  The light to the end of the wishful thinking tunnel is alternative energy like windmills, solar, biomass, and the like.

And has anyone pointed out to them that without the government subsidies that they provide, these alternate industries would probably tank like they did in the 70s (like my solar hot water heater vendor)?  OK, maybe not completely tank (oil is so high, even when the alternate energies cost would still be competitive). But the point is (even as I live in a passive solar house) – a windmill on my car roof is not going to make my car wheels go round and round.

Anyways, David Starr decides to debunk Hodes’s stance on this silliness over at News from the Northwoods:

Part 1. Stop filling the strategic petroleum reserve. [snip] Stopping filling reduces US demand by 0.35%.

Part 2. Sue OPEC...Surely no one believes we can increase supplies by suing the suppliers.

Part 3. Alternate Energy….Wind and solar? Can’t put them in my gas tank, or my oil tank.

Part 4. Offer special low rate loans for construction of energy efficient buildings. Right on.This will become simply cheap mortgage money, a desirable thing, but hardly a thing to reduce gasoline prices.

Part 5. “Oh yes your honor, I carpooled every day, and that is why I took a tax credit of $5700 last year, $20 a day for the 270 working days”.

If Mr. Hodes would talk about actually doing real things to relieve the fuel shortage he could send out as many self promoting brochures at taxpayer expense as he pleased. As it is, he comes out four square for doing nothing, at taxpayere expense.

Amen – lots of franked materials sent to us, paid by us, telling us to grin, bear it, and don’t worry….he’s on the job!
