Conservatives – Patriotism for County….Dems…for food?

I lament what the Republican Party does to itself often here at the ‘Grok but one thing should be clear to all of our readers – our patriotism towards our country, the ideals that make it great, and the troops that defend us all.

In our new Category of "Just can’t make this stuff up", we have a notion of what the Dems think is the definition of patriotism. At the Denver Post:

Democratic convention to be no-fry zone

DENVER — Warning to Southern delegates to the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver this August: it will be a no-fry zone.

As part of the effort to make the August 25-28 convention the greenest ever, the Democrats’ guidelines for food catering include one that strikes at the heart of Southern cuisine: no fried food.

That’s RIGHT – the Dems are concentrating on the hardest problems that face Americans today and are doing something about it – let’s bring back judgementalism and discrimination!  Now, a whole cuisine is no longer politically correct – let’s ban Southern cooking!

No fried chicken. No fried catfish. No fried green tomatoes. No fried okra. No fried anything.

At least they are consistent – they ARE the party of NO!  After all, they are the heads of state of the Nanny State ("…we know better than you do what’s good for you…").

In promoting healthy eating habits, the Democratic guidelines say every meal should be nutritious and include "at least three of the following colors: red, green, yellow, purple/blue and white."

Ah yes, the new dietary guideline – combining food with color therapy!

"It’s the new patriotism," says Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, the driving force behind the greening of the Democratic convention.

Yup, we conservatives put our hand over heart as Old Glory walks by…Dems salute beans, corn, broccoli, and turnips.

However, if presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain starts gaining in the polls on Barack Obama, who will accept the Democratic nomination in Denver, the Democrats may find they’ve got bigger fish to fr? – uh, make that – bake.

Actually, the real problem here is not the political correctness that the Democrat Party is imposing on its members – after all, it is a voluntary association; no one yet is forced to join.

The real problem is when Democrats want the big stick of Government to force this kind of nonsense on the rest of us (remember trans-fats, anyone?).
