Our buddy John Hawkins of RightWingNews has a rather complete roundup of important quotes by the probable Democratic prez nominee Obama and other important members of his posse including his Pastor, wife, and embeds within the liberal mainstream media--in addition to a few choice ones from some of his detractors as well. Any thinking person that desires to educate his/her self as much as possible about the choices in the upcoming election NEEDS to know what's on the minds and tongue-tips of a would-be president and his adherents.

Among the notable quotes Hawkins presents by the freshman Illinois Senator that struck me the most is this:

"I can no more disown (Jeremiah Wright) than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe." -- Barack Obama

Which he further explained:

"The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person..." -- Barack Obama

And this:

"...I've got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby." -- Barack Obama

Got that? He views a child that one of his daughters might someday conceive as "punishment." Give the guy credit-- Beyond tossing the grandmother overboard that had a hand in raising him, this life-long rabidly pro-choice politician is willing to advocate the murder in the womb of his own grandchild. How would he have felt if his grandmother had encouraged his mother to do the same-- you know, that "typical white woman" that she was, and all given the "mixed" aspect of the whole affair-- oh that's right... had she done so, he wouldn't feel anything...

If this is how he regards his own flesh and blood, can you imagine his feelings towards persons with no relationship at all? Do check out the rest of John's post. Taken as a whole, the collection is an eye-opener!

The second quote on Obama was about contraception, not abortion. How bout doing a little research instead of just looking at out-of-context quotes. You're an embarrassment to those of us that actually want a fuller debate.

That came out a little harshly--I’m sorry for calling you an embarrassment. I just really take issue with comments being taken out of context. These kind of attacks on Obama demonstrate an intellectually weak argument and ignorance toward his actual views. This kind of behavior will lead conservatives nowhere.

No offense taken, jtlight. Answer this-- Is Senator Obama NOT absolutely pro-choice? Would he sign a parental notification bill, should one cross his desk? I followed the link. I see the context. I also know his position. I think his comments, while I applaud the truthfulness, indicate a certain level of obsession with race, and fall in line with his position on abortion. I just observed what his words mean to me. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Senator Obama is Pro-choice, though his I agree with his overall position on abortion. Abortion policy should be about reducing the number of abortions. Wanting to overturn Roe v. Wade (the stated goal of most pro-lifers), is a very short-sighted and counter-productive view in my mind. As far as race, it is flat out wrong to say that he is obsessed with race. If you look at only some very specific quotes, with many pulled out of a major speech on race (which was probably the most honest speech about race in America in many years), yeah, you're going to think that. But the overall tone of his campaign has not been about race. Looking at the campaign, it's clear that this has been forced upon the election by Clinton. I'm sure you disagree with his policy (I disagree with much of his policy too), but the accusations (throwing his grandmother under the bus, wanting to kill his grandchildren) you have made do nothing to raise the level of discourse in politics in this country (something that Obama has tried to do, which I respect), and only hurts your position.

I never said a word about overturning Roe vs. Wade. I simply pointed out, which you did not refute, the fact that he opposes even parental notification-- a policy which would (hopefully) reduce the number of abortions by minors. Looked at another way, a minor getting an abortion-- an invasive medical procedure-- without parental knowledge, should be opposed by ALL adults. If they can't get a tattoo or piercings without parental permission, why should they get to kill an unborn baby? As to race-- perhaps it is others, Clinton, Wright, et al. that are injecting it, but there it is nonetheless. His grandmother comments are what they are. It's everything we'll get, and then some, should he become president. How can my quoting Senator Obam's own words possibly hurt MY position?

As far as abortion...whatever. I don't really want to debate that right now. National abortion policy is not a sticking point for me in terms of voting. But you ask this question: "How can my quoting Senator Obam's own words possibly hurt MY position?" That answer is very simple. It hurts your position when you take quotes out of context, when you provide no overall picture of ideas of the candidate. Words can mean anything when taken in snippets. Especially when those obviously cut off quotes are extrapolated into a theoretical idea on how Obama would react to the abortion of his grandchildren. On top of that, those extrapolated views are counter to many of his larger views on abortion. Using snippets of text to support this position looks foolish and ill-informed, and decreases your credibility in every area. If this is the type of discourse that can be expected against Obama in the coming months, then any fight against the Democrats will be useless. America is sick of Morris-Rove politics, based on little substance, but little more than character attacks. Your clarifications on abortion are valid, and a perfectly legitimate reason to vote against Obama. Your wild extrapolations in the original post are not.
