NH Dems – death by a thousand (tax) cuts

by Skip

Notice the following pattern – a death by a THOUSAND cuts (or dollar bills in this case)….just to show that NONE of it will be sufficient to put in a broad based tax.  Yup, we Dems have created a crisis for which the only answer is MORE of YOUR money!

Sure, LET’S use the taxpayers as an ATM machine!  After all, it’s THEIR money (ha! not ours!)!  NH Advantage, what’s that?

As our NH readers know, the Democrats here in NH pretty much swept the Republicans from power pretty much in every possible slot state wide.  With that, came the expect drunken orgy of spending – the budget rose an astounding 17%!

How’d they do that in a state that requires a balanced budget by law?  Simple – just monkey with the revenue projections!  And now, they’re caught with their pants around their ankles.

Revenues statewide ARE up.  The problem? It is becoming quite clear that the NH Democrats have seriously overreached in this year’s State budget, especially in the area of revenue forcasting.  They decry that the national and local economies are to blame: "that’s why revenues are down!".

Er, not so fast.  Again, actual revenues are up year over year.  One more time for the tone deaf Dems – hear that?  Actual revenues are up.  This small, simple fact gives lie to the Dem claim that the NH economy has tanked; the only thing that has tanked is their revenue projections!

So, do they admit that overreach?  Do they admit that perhaps the glasses they wore at the time had a tad more tinge of rose in them than warranted?  Of COURSE not!

So, what is their sole way to fix their self-induced problem?  Of COURSE – let’s raise taxes and fees (never "how do we protect the taxpayers" and perhaps ramp down the cost of government).  Here’s a prelim list:

Increased Taxes and Fees this Session:

  • HB 1309—A new tax on cigars that will adversely affect sales along the NH border.
  • HB 1426—Motor fuel imported into NH will be taxed higher and dedicated to a cleanup fund that DES testified, “does not need money right now.”
  • HB 1594—Establishes new fees that will be levied on the backs of small business owners in NH.
  • HB 1286—Requires mortgage originators to pay a $100 licensing fee and a $100 renewal fee.
  • HB 1414—Increases the bail commissioners fee by $15 per day.
  • HB 1360—House Democrats defeated a bill that would have repealed the civil court filing fee that they adopted last year. Adding a fee of $25 for filing any civil case is just another step in preventing our citizens from seeking redress and is yet another example of the mismanagement of the budget.
  • HB 1547—House Democrats refused another attempt to repeal the fee charged to the Register of Deeds in an attempt to fund LCHIP by using a method that is harmful to citizens experiencing an already fledging real estate market.
  • SB 528—Created a $5 incentive for recycling mercury thermostats that would be paid by manufacturers and passed along to the consumer.
  • SB 519—Imposes a per diem fine on dam owners and operators for failure to repair damage.
  • SB 317—Raises the tobacco license fee—once again hurting small business and chipping away at the New Hampshire Advantage.

Pathetic

I wonder if we’ll all have to pay a “mercury disposal fee” on CF bulbs after they mandate that’s all we can buy? Oh, and let’s not forget that Raymond Burton– a REPUBLICAN, along with a few others, wants to INCREASE the gas tax. We must apply our Republican principles universally, and should spank those that simply pay lip service. These are all good things for Republican candidates to slug Democrats with… or would be, if said Republicans had any more credibility than their big spending counterparts in the opposition party. If you don’t believe me, look to the COUNTY level of government. Here in Belknap, the GOP still dominates the delegation by a huge majority, and yet, we find more spending, more regulation, and more welfare– all signed, sealed and delivered by REPUBLICANS, including (for those of you thinking she’s governor material) faux conservative, Reagan Network “leader” Fran Wendlebloe…

A couple more thoughts about the CF bulbs. How many of us have outdoor lights for the driveway and front door of the house? How well do these CF bulbs do in middle of January, on those nights when it’s 0 or below? Do they work well with dimmers? Do they come in candleabra shapes that work in your dining room lamp? I can see a disposal fee getting charged, the transfer station in town already makes us separate the florescent bulbs out. One of the organizations that I donate money to on a regular basis hires disabled vets, blind and handicapped people, so they primarily sell over the phone. They sell good old fashioned light bulbs, with a 5 year guarantee. So mandating CF bulbs is going to help put them out of business or prevent me from getting a replacement if I need one?

When incandescent light bulbs are outlawed, only outlaws will own incandescent light bulbs….
