Selectmen Meeting - 4/30/08 7pm

Board of Selectmen Meeting
Wednesday, April 30, 2008
7 p.m.

The time has changed - notice that it is no longer at 3pm!  This meeting is not just for those that can get away during the regular working day hours.

Will it stay that way?  It all depends on you, the townfolk of Gilford.  Show up, it may stay that.  Don't, and it may revert back to the afternoon time.

If you want to let the Selectmen know your feelings about how the town is run, now's the time to show up.

Why is this important?  Because I was one, among others, who asked that our elected officials consider changing the time of this meeting from the afternoon (when us working stiffs pretty much could not go) to the evening (when us working stiffs CAN go).  We don't have a mayor; three Selectmen oversee the goings on in our Town.  So, this is important - at least to me - in order to have input as to how I might have a smidgeon of influence on how our Town is run.

Why did they change the time, after the previous Board refused a number of times to change their ways?  Two reasons:

  • Elections matter.  Those that did not want more citizenry to participate are no longer on the Board.   Moral of the story - So never, ever think your vote doesn't count.
  • Because I asked.  And others asked...and requested, and asked again (and in my case, started badgering - but only a wee bit).  Moral of the story - individual citizens can make a difference - even in the little things.  Persistence counts!

Now, why is this announcement here rather than just at GilfordGrok?  Because some of the folks in Gilford read GraniteGrok and not GilfordGrok.  And because I was asked nicely to try to get the word out to show the Selectboard that their effort would be met by peoples' faces looking back at them.

OK, you're thinking, I'm not from Gilford - why should I care?

When people can make decisions about how your family lives, you have a choice:

  • You can just ignore politicians - if you do, then don't be surprised at their surprises
  • You can get involved - and surprise them!
