So, this is what happens when we “fix” global warming?

global warming- not!

This is a photo I snapped this morning (yep-Sunday) of the crew of guys removing snow from my commercial building here in Central NH. While "manmade" global warming’s hucksters and fanatical religious zealots continue to beat their drums in typical frenzied fashion, the reality is that, when you consider the alternative, it’s not a pretty sight. While many have lamented the cyclical (in my opinion) demise of winter in these parts for the last few years, with it’s return in full fury this season, many are singing a different tune.

As buildings collapse all around us due to the heavy weight of record-breaking snowfall, I hear nobody celebrating. As a matter of fact, everybody one talks to is moaning about this winter’s continued onslaught. "We can’t wait for some warm weather" goes the universal refrain. "But this is what we want, isn’t it?" comes my reply. Isn’t this, after all, the opposite of global warming? And before one of you fools out there tells me that all of the snow is the result of global warming, consider the fact that, unlike "normal" winters, even before the global warming hysteria gripped our Nation, we have had almost no warm weather whatsoever this year. "January thaw?" If you consider a couple of days in the 40′s with a spell of rain this year’s "thaw", well, we got shortchanged. In fact, we have burned more wood nonstop this year, than in the nearly twenty years I have owned my house.

Yessiree, when you consider the reality of our weather, and its effect on people’s lives, I can say with a fair degree of certainty that, when it comes right down to it, global warming is actually more desirous than global cooling. Think about that. Oh well- time to get back outside and shovel. After all, it’s what we do… Lately, that’s ALL we do!

Local weather is not a reliable indicator of global climate. I have more than tons of snow here in Vermont, too. But how is my backyard a indicator of global conditions?

December was the eighth warmest on record.

Okay, well, how bitterly cold was January?

The contiguous U.S. temperature during January 2008 was near average….

The combined global land and ocean surface temperature for January was the 31st warmest on record [since 1880], 0.32°F/0.18°C above the 20th century mean.

More snow = more water vapor in the air. And what might cause that? Warmer temps.

Congrats to “Just a reader”– I knew it wouldn’t take long for someone to claim that our excessive winter was because of global warming. What about the cold weather we’ve had more steady than any winter in my memory? Does heat = cold? Only in the spiritual world of a practicing believer in the global warming religion. When it’s colder and snowier in my back yard, it means nothing, but an anomoly? Maybe the same could be said of the warming. Read the facts in some other recent posts we’ve added on the subject: http://granitegrok.com/blog/2008/02/dust_off_those_makinaws.html and http://granitegrok.com/blog/2008/02/how_cold_did_you_say_it_was.html

I never said your backyard is an “anomoly”(sic). Re-read the parable of the blind men and the elephant. You are looking at less than a speck on the globe.

    Weather does not equal climate.

Yeah, maybe, but I mostly care about my “speck”
