machine gun

Not this year...      Cry

I was rather sad to hear that the Manchester Republican Committee (MRC) has apparently caved in the face of squishy politicians with regards to hosting a rerun of last year's excellent fund-raiser-- the machine gun shoot. As reported in yesterday's NH Union Leader,

A follow-up to the controversial "machine gun" fundraiser that drew hundreds of area Republicans to a local firing range last summer is in danger of being cancelled.

The Manchester Republican Committee's executive board recently voted to "table" plans to bring the event back for a second year, committee Chairman John Castelot said. Two people active in the party said the event has already been nixed, purportedly because the board worried it would put "undue pressure" on Republican candidates on the ballot this November.
The article reports that some of the city Republicans are denying that the story is true, that the event might still go on, while others say that perhaps they'll do it next year. What does this say about the Republican politicians' committment to the Second Amendment? Of course, you should recall that even last year, the politicians would have none of this, and not a single one showed. But, a lot of REGULAR people turned out, including me, my son, and his friend. And actually, as I reported in a post here at the 'Grok following last year's shoot,

There were no politicians in sight. Only happy, ordinary Republican folks enjoying a good day celebrating the 2nd Amendment with friends and family. I'll take that over a room filled with pompous politicians any day-- Democrat OR Republican!

Why is it that every time people have some fun, there's always someone waiting in the wings to rain on the parade? Are there ANY Republicans left out there still in possession of a spine? Sheesh!

There were many 'true' Republicans in sight there. They were pushing a certain presidential candidate. :-) He couldn't be there but his followers were, in majority numbers.
