Political Chowder - what FUN!
Doug and I were invited to be on Arnie Arnesen's political talk show, Political Chowder:
The taping was today for broadcast on Sunday at 11am on WZMY, lots of Public Access channels across the state, and can be stream later (find out how here).
We were matched up with Andrew Edwards (an NH House Rep) and Laura Clawson (a founder at BlueHampshire.com); perhaps a good way of putting it is that they are as liberal as we are conservative.
Once we figured out where each was sitting (Arnie, Doug, myself, Andy, Laura), we introduced ourselves...Doug from GraniteGrok, Skip from GraniteGrok....and Andy said:
"You [both] are from GraniteGrok? I expected somebody......younger! You know, the whole Internet thing..."
Amazed, I chuckled and said (paraphrased):
"Great, an accusation of ageism, right off the bat!"
You know, I really wondered about why he would say that, but in retrospect, that really set the stage. I did take it as a complement (seeing that my gray hair does tend to belie my sterling personality - ha!); Doug thought it a high complement. I figured it out later after Googling (see, us oldster Groksters can do the 'Net thing too!) from his blog site:
...but old people are retarded and don't listen to reasoned debate...
Well, well, young Master Edwards!
That aside, both Doug and I had great fun, and it became more enjoyable as the time (our panel is scheduled for a 1/2 hour in 2 segments) - our smiles just got broader and broader. TMEW came with me - she's not entirely sure that the other two were having as much fun as we were - they seem rather annoyed with what we said.. Discussions included McCain, Romney, Obama, Clinton, speed limits on the lake, the death penalty (perhaps more - can't remember - see, I'm just an oldster....). I'll post a bit more on these topics later. And watching the show will remind me of "stuff".
While there are some rigor mortis conservatives that would take offense at even thinking of appearing "on a liberal's show - that's consorting with the enemy!", our take is that if you are that unsure of your stances and philosophy, you ought to rethink where you really stand.
Us? We take on all comers and anywhere. Otherwise, why bother with all the time we put into this?
And I will say, Arnie is very pleasant to have as host - smart as a whip, in control of her show, but certainly willing to have both of us on at the same time. Very gracious, she strikes me as a "good" liberal - loyal to her stances, willing to take on anyone, but willing to "chat friendly" afterwards.
And yes, we have invited her to come on Meet The New Press. Not sure about Andy and Laura -Andy was being held over for the next panel and Laura booked it out of the studio faster than I slip on ice wearing leather soled shoes.....
