So, don’t take it!

Felipe Calderon, President of Mexico

MEXICO CITY

President Felipe Calderon accused U.S. presidential candidates yesterday of anti-Mexican posturing and warned the U.S. Congress not to impose conditions on an anti-drug aid package.

Right – one of these folks just might be the one that you will have to deal with.  What are you going to use as leverage – send us more illegal immigrants?  Or do you think that insulting them is going to help you "negotiate" with them after the election?

“The only theme in the (U.S.) electoral campaign is to compete to see who can be the most swaggering, macho and anti-Mexican,” Calderon told a local radio station, Enfoque. He did not name any candidate or party.

“I find the greatest sensitivity in the U.S. government, some in Congress,” Calderon said, but added that there was “a total lack of understanding and aggravation, hostility toward Mexico” among Americans in general.

And insult the rest of us too, eh?  Hola, Senor Presidente!  Might you think it may be that it is what these law breakers are doing?  Americans, above all, want to see fair play – how would you frame the discussion that law breaking = fair play?  And how do you propose that fair play is conserved when your own laws and constitution would prevent me from doing what your citizens are doing here.

The only difference is that it seems your government gets rid of your illegals – mine does not.

Calderon also appeared to reject any conditions on a proposed $1.4 billion U.S. anti-drug aid package that had been negotiated with American officials, saying, “I cannot accept any submission or subordination.”

So, do we have to give it to you?  If there are conditions, are you going to stand up on principles and politely say "No mas, muchos gracias"?

The proposal by the Bush administration, called the Merida Initiative, is to give Mexico aid, training and equipment to fight drug trafficking, which U.S. officials see as a national-security problem.

It awaits approval in Congress, and some U.S. legislators have suggested that the program may need safeguards to prevent corruption or human-rights abuses by Mexican authorities.

Go ahead, Senor Presidente…

…show me the stats that your government is not corrupt, that your army and federal police are as pure as the driven snow….btw, isn’t that one of the issues you ran on…they are aren’t?

“I need that technology,” Calderon said. “Give it to me. And give it to me without conditions.”

Such chutzpah – "Give it to me".  Having dealt with them before, sounds like a welfare queen – I have nothing but I am entitled and brazen enough to demand something to what I am not good enough to earn.

Tell you what – I’ll give you a way to earn it. I propose that you put your troops on your Northern border and not allow anyone to go further north without the requisite documentation….

He also criticized U.S. involvement in Iraq, saying that U.S. leaders were “spending Americans’ money and putting the government into debt to finance their military adventure, and that is squeezing out private investment.”

Now he sounds like the distant family members gathered around the dottering bachelor (and rich) Uncle – "Quick, declare him incompetent BEFORE he can spend our money".
