« What the F#&K?!!! I thought the tolls were raised to FIX roads. Fooled again, suckers! | Main | Least Favorite People on the Right »

Monday Poll-- NH DOT toll hikes. Are they necessary? Who's to blame?

state workers
Is there ANY change to the wasteful ways? Party on, dudes!
.
In the comments section of the previous post about the elimination of machines at the toll booths and the replacement with MORE state workers mere days after the Great Republican Toll Hikes of 2007, a reader, "Frank", claims I've got it all wrong, calling my position a "knee jerk" reaction written for fun. I disagree. It is my contention that the news of the hiring of more state workers is simply one more kick in the @ss for the hapless taxpayers and motorists here in the Granite State. It's almost like getting the proverbial raspberry from the "grow government big spenders" that run things nowadays.
.
Now's the chance for the rest of you to chime in. Take the polls below. Am I wrong? Does ANYBODY believe for a moment that any degree of cost cutting measures have been implemented at the DOT? I maintain that the toll hikes and the soon to be increased gas taxes allows the continued funding of "business as usual."  Am I off base on this? And who's at fault for this mess, anyway? Feel free to leave comments after taking the poll. (And yes, I AM mad as hell about this-- especially when Republicans could have used this as an opportunity to show the REAL difference between them & the Dems!)
.
Do you believe the NH DOT did everything it possibly could do to save money BEFORE they raised tolls?
Yes
No
Don't know

Who is to blame for the NH DOT woes?
Gov. Lynch
Gov. Shaheen
Gov. Benson
Executive Council (They sign the contracts)
Big Spending Republicans
Big Spending Democrats
Chuck O'Leary (DOT acting commissioner)
Former Commissioner Carol Murray
Ray Burton (loves DOT funded sidewalks, bathrooms, etc.)
All of the above. Throw the bums out!

i wonder if it's also our fault. After all, it's up to us to point the finger and say "Foul!" I wonder, would a class action suit against the state be possible, the claim being that the legislature, executive council, and governor have violated the state constitution's mandate that the funds collected for the highways (tolls, gas taxes, vehicle regisration, driver license) must go to highways? Or is the state constitution a 'paper tiger', with no force in law?
