Thoughts as solid as the Granite upon which they were thought….

Just like what I posted yesterday, some protected classes of folks get to talk in ways (and get away with it) that I cannot.  Once again, thanks to Political Correctness and rascism.  Jesse Jackson went after Barack Obama.  Why?

Jesse Jackson sharply criticized presidential hopeful and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for “acting like he’s white”  according to The Associated Press.

Let’s keep that "is he black enough" meme going, eh Jesse? Imagine if I said that…

"You know, you look back over our history, and it doesn’t take you long to realize that our people have shed more blood for other people’s liberty than any other combination of nations in the history of the world.” – Fred Thompon  9/7/07

Operative word – other

The folks over at the Washington Post can’t listen well, it seems.  They totaled up our casualties over the decades defending others: 623,288.  They tried to claim that the 8 million lost in WWII by the Soviets were, in part, to "liberate" Western Europe from the Nazis.

Right….and then they spent spent the next few decades trying to take over.  That’s "liberating"?

Thompson’s jingoistic assertion cannot be supported by facts, barring some tortuous definition of the phrase "other people’s liberty."

Journalists….please try learning history before twisting it….and trying a take down in doing so.  Jingoistic - showing a bit of a bias, eh?

News to WaPo – Most Americans and I want someone who is proud of the US to be the US President!

Now, fat is a disease…according to Bill Richardson, Dem Prez ’08 candidate, and deserves protection under the ADA.

"This is an issue of basic civil rights," said Richardson. "There are no federal laws that protect obese Americans from discrimination in the workplace, school, or anywhere else. This must change."

Why?  This is not a case of skin color – they are not bound forever to be in this minority – they can change.

Asked how the A.D.A. would distinguish between obese Americans deserving of protection and merely overweight Americans, the New Mexico governor said he would defer such questions to specialists.

"Look, I’d let scientists determine that — nutritionists — you gotta be flexible. But it’s important to have obesity and somebody’s overweight not used as an excuse for discrimination," Richardson told ABC News. "But I’d let scientists, nutritionists determine that."

Richardson, who has managed to lose 30 lbs. since December 2006, made light of the fact that he was the only presidential candidate to address The Obesity Society.

Good question – weasel answer.  Just more pandering.

Are you smarter than a college student?

Once again, is higher education failing our society?  The Intercollegiate Studies Institute did a survey of our best and brightest college students on their knowledge of American history and civics:

Failing Our Students, Failing America: Holding Colleges Accountable for Teaching America’s History and Institutions asks: Is American higher education doing its duty to prepare the next generation to maintain our legacy of liberty?

In fall 2005, researchers at the University of Connecticut’s Department of Public Policy (UConnDPP), commissioned by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute’s (ISI) National Civic Literacy Board, conducted a survey of some 14,000 freshmen and seniors at 50 colleges and universities. Students were asked 60 multiple-choice questions to measure their knowledge in four subject areas: America’s history, government, international relations, and market economy. The disappointing results were published by ISI in fall 2006 in The Coming Crisis in Citizenship: Higher Education’s Failure to Teach America’s History and Institutions.

Seniors, on average, failed all four subjects, and their overall average score was 53.2%

Rankings here.   Take the quiz.

Infuriating!

Oregon is counting on a new tool to educate Spanish-speaking students across state schools: Mexico’s curriculum.

Already in place at three Oregon high schools, the programs aims to use textbooks, a detailed online Web site, DVDs and CDs provided for free by the Mexican government to teach math, science and even U.S. history to Spanish speakers in Oregon.

Right!  Let’s take the educational standards of a failing nation that has exported 1 in 10 (1 in 8?) of it workers elsewhere and use them here. So, let’s just not dumb down our own materials, let’s keep going further.  What does this say about the professionalism and capability of the teachers in these locations?

Also, think of this: free?  If they were that good, why are Mexico’s citizens being successful there?

Mexico has made its national curriculum available to communities across the U.S. since 2001. The idea was to encourage Mexican adults and youths living abroad to continue an education often abandoned back home due to limited resources.

"We wanted people to be aware that they have to study," said Patricia Ramos, the director of national affairs for Mexico’s Institute for Adult Education and National Advisory of Education for Life and Work. "You have to dare to study and make use of technology because that way, it will be easier to adapt to where you now live."

Got that – don’t come back home!

Assimilation anyone?

Israel declares Gaza to be hostile

The Israeli government has declared the Gaza Strip a "hostile entity" in response to the continued rocket attacks by Palestinian militants there.

Israeli officials told the BBC fuel and electricity supplies could be targeted, but not water, food or medicine.

The militant group Hamas, which controls Gaza, said such a move would be considered a declaration of war.

[snip]

Israeli officials reportedly hope the new measures will put pressure on Hamas, which ousted its rivals Fatah to seize control of Gaza in June, to halt rocket attacks on southern Israel.

So why did it take so long?  After all, the Palestinians have said that they want to eliminate the State of Israel and keep trying to send in suicide bombers and keep launching rockets into Israel.

Good for them.

A spokesman for Hamas in Gaza, Fawzi Barhoum, condemned the decision.

"It is a declaration of war and continues the criminal, terrorist Zionist actions against our people," he said

Convicted of murdering his parents, he pleads for mercy from the court as he is now an orphan..
