Here's the program:
- Skip and Doug travelled with McCain Thursday on a leg of his "No Surrender Tour". We'll talk about what that was like. We ate chicken wings with the Senator on the bus, and discussed some detailed points of the war in Iraq.
- Maria Comella, national spokesperson for the Giuliani campaign will fill us in about the latest regarding the Moveon.org ad in the NYT and Rudy's counter-ad. We'll also review his new YouTube attack on Hillary Clinton. We like being on offense here at the 'Grok!
- Thomas Roach, the originator of the "Taxpayers Against a Wall Street and Mortgage Bailout" petition, will join us. We'll discuss the petition, and the reasons behind it. As I read this morning in the latest issue of National Review, "the way to keep lenders from making foolish loans is to insist that they take most of the losses when those loans go bad." Precisely. Unfortunately, circumstances like we see in this area create opportunities for politicians to be seen as offerers of a "helping hand." (They stick their hands into my pocket and "help" themselves to my money, and "hand" it to those down on their luck. This makes good political hay in some circles.) More here.
- Shaheen and Sununu. Is NH about to get bluer? Is Sununu up for the fight? Can Kathy Sullivan, former NH Dem Chair and NH Power Player deliver the goods?
- Will the "Hsu Hampshire" campaign fund scandal have any effect on Dems?
- Guest Rev. Jeff Owens. We'll talk values and morality in public discourse. We'll explore the relation between such things and the law. In addition, the gang will examine the coarsening of society and the tension between judgement and the "if it feels good, do it" mentality.
- The Iraq war. We'll discuss this week's update and the prospects for a successful conclusion. While travelling with McCain, we caught up with R. James Woolsey, former CIA Director. We asked about the Iranian piece of the new world war.
- Finally, we'll do a roundup of the candidates of both parties. We'll run through the list and note who's up and who's down. Is Fred Thompson just a flash in the pan? Perhaps we'll identify a few that ought to just pack it in.
