Thompson Out! Thompson In?

horse on the beach

.

This picture reminds me of my 53rd birthday. My husband arranged to have our horses trailered to Lake Michigan from the Rockin' R Ranch in Bear Lake, MI so we could ride up and down Lake Michigan, in and out of the water; he succeeded in giving me a day of joy that was probably the best birthday I ever had. In fact, it was one of the most enjoyable and memorable days of my life. But, we're talkin' politics here, I forgot for a second.

No surprise, click here…while I didn’t know much about Tommy Thompson, mainly because I never felt like he had a chance to be the nominee and I only have so much time in a day to study candidates, I’m glad he pulled out of the crowded race having recognized that the “writing was on the wall.” Where will his supporters end up? It’s getting more interesting and a few more will be dropping out soon, I think.

I still like Mitt and Giuliani. But, I was also very impressed with Mike Huckabee since I saw him and his band, Capitol Offense, at a support the troops rally in Nashua last month.

Why do I like Mike? He didn’t seem like a politician at all, but just a very sincere person. Since I don’t particularly care for politicians…period…Mike’s sincerity is a huge plus for me. I’m going to look at him further now.

Hey, he also plays a mean guitar and seemed relaxed and having a good time himself knockin’ out the old tunes from my generation. There was some Elvis and other old classics played that I simply love and wax nostalgic over. Yep, I was dancin’, dancin’, dancin’ with some other gal who, like me, didn’t care that we were about the only ones dancin’…I try to enjoy life since I don’t know when it will be gone.

Is that enough to get my vote? Of course it isn’t. Like I said, I’ll be reading his policies to see if most of them line up with my personal criteria for picking our next President. I’m realistic that there’s not a one of ‘em that will fit everything I’m looking for in a candidate, but I have to make an informed decision before I vote. It’s my duty as an American citizen to educate myself before I vote. Well, better check out his website and see what I can find out.

I could even end up a Fred Head I guess before it’s all said and done. No, I haven’t studied Fred yet either and you know why already.

Right now, I’m really more interested in reading further about the outlaw who stole some body’s $10,000 cowboy boots. Since I’m a cowgirl, I understand what a pair of cowboy boots can mean to a person. Although, I bought a new pair on ebay for considerably less, once you find the right ones, you wanta be buried with your favorite boots on next to your favorite horse. Does anyone know if they’ll cremate your boots with you since I’m leaning toward having my ashes spread partly here on the ranch and the other half in the ocean. I’m guessing it will be no problem, not that I’m lookin’ to follow the trail to my final sunset just yet, but horse s#%*! happens…especially after you just cleaned out the barn!

Happy Trails!

Where will Tommy Thompson supporters go? He's got supporters? ;) Sorry, couldn't resist. Unfortunately, he was never a viable first tier candidate and didn't have a lot of supporters. That's why he's dropping out. My wife and I watched the republican debate back a few months when it was held in Manchester and while I was cynical political watcher type and didn't like any of them, my wife seemed to like Huckabee. He gave a good answer about his faith and religion and didn't back down. Now we're not of his faith but it was nice to see someone forcefully defend his faith yet not seem overtly preachy. All in all, a good win for him. It'll be interesting to see how that shakes out.
Touchee` (did I spell that correctly?) Paul. We're groksters, and Huckabee could be a Huckster...hmmm, I'm not sure that plays out well as President..."The Huckster!" Interesting that your wife liked him; women may be more adept at picking out sincerity in a person? Well, at least that makes 2 women, but hey it's a start for Mike. I recall watching the debate as well and being impressed with his answer on his faith although I don't remember exactly what he said or what his denomination was; but, yep, I like someone who doesn't back down merely for political reasons.
"He didn’t seem like a politician at all, but just a very sincere person. Since I don’t particularly care for politicians…period…Mike’s sincerity is a huge plus for me. I’m going to look at him further now." It's nice that Mike Huckabee plays the guitar well and is a poster boy for weight loss. But Huckabee, far from being "down to earth," is a podunk nutball who claims to reject irrefutable aspects of modern biology and is unfit to serve as president on this basis alone. Idiots do not make good leaders. But of greater concern to you, Judy, is the fact that he is indeed just another politician. When asked about the question "Do you believe in evolution?" that was posed to the ten Republican presidential candidates who attended the Republican debate in Manchester recently, Huckabee (who had answered "no") said: "It's interesting that that question would even be asked of somebody running for president...I'm not planning on writing the curriculum for an 8th grade science book...I'm asking for the opportunity to be president of the United States." First of all, he doesn't understand the relevance of the question from the standpoint of an educated voter. If the candidates had been asked, "Do you believe in gravity?" and one had answered, "No, but what of it? I'm not planning on writing a physics textbook," most American voters would (one hopes) have immediately legislated the candidate out of consideration. In other words, the question was a sort of litmus test. In reality, of course, it was asked in order to establish whether candidates hewed to the views of their largely benighted voting base. Second, if the candidates had been asked, "Do you believe in God?" and one of them had replied, "No, but what difference does it make? I'm not planning to teach Sunday school," does anyone think Mike Huckabee would cheerfully agree? I don't think its' inordinately speculative to say that he would not. Godders are notorious hypocrites. So yes, he's a jackhole like most of the candidates on both sides, but he's not at all bright about hiding it, although he looks like Plato compared to Tom Tancredo. It's going to be ugly, I'm afraid, regardless of who takes the reins 17 months from now, but I'm hoping it's at least not going to be an insane redneck clown-boy from the backwater swamplands of America.

Hey Kemibe, Can you be more specific about your statement: "who claims to reject irrefutable aspects of modern biology is unfit to serve as president on this basis alone." Well, we certainly have enough idiots in leadership here in NH at the moment, and you're absolutely right, they do not make good leaders. Anyone who knows anything about him being a former pastor, already knows he believes in creationism not evolution no doubt. Personally, I think he just sidestepped the question with a funny answer. And your comment "Godders are notorious hypocrits" is interesting. Personally, I think there are about the same amount of hypocrits in the general population...assuming "Godders", of course, means people who believe in God. Yep, it will be very interesting to see who gets elected, and I really don't think the Huckster will be the candidate anyway. Thanks for commenting.
