McCain in Gilford

Update:  I started this on 6/7 and didn't get the chance to finish it, so I've just decided to bump it up to the top.  Since we talked with David Mark, author of "Going Dirty, The Art of Negative Campaigning" on Meet The New Press yesterday, I wanted to draw your attention to the short interview with Crystal below.  Part of the MTNP discussion centered around the idea that with a candidate always "on" because of ordinary citizen's use of technology like blogs, DVRs, and video cams, it will require a different kinds of candidate that is always surrounded by flacks and hussled from venue to the next with few times actually talking to "the folk".

Senator McCain fits the former - always on and always ready to take questions

=============================================================

Senator McCain's Straight Talk Express rolled in Gilford today, making a stop at the Gilford Fire Dept building for one of his Town hall format meetings.  Quite the crowd showed up!

Pictures are below, but after watching the crowd come in and just before it started, I got the chance to quickly talk with Crystal Benton, Press Secretary on McCain's staff about his  preferred style of the "meet and greet" - the Town Hall experience.

Also, in addition to the video done by Doug above, there's a few more stills after the jump.

Before anyone arrived, the McCain staff was setting up....

And of course, each event has its own crew for doing this, especially the lighting and the speaker system

And there is a fair amount of tech equipment that is brought in too!

(Oh, the person above in the white shirt?   Ed Engler of the Laconia Daily Sun).

As you can tell from the pictures below, it was a packed house.  Think about 300 people for a Tuesday morning, 9am.
