Podcasting Announcement – Beta Version

Meet The New Press – PODCASTING!!!!

Beta Version 

Well, the time for podcasting is almost here at the ‘Groks (here and at GilfordGrok).  We now have 4 weeks of Meet The New Press broadcasts (WEMJ 1490AM, Saturday afternoons from 2-4pm EST) in the can.

As with all new things, we are still working out bugs.  First the show itself as Pat, Doug, Jerrod (our broadcast engineer) and I get the interactions down between all of us and we find and fix the technical bugs in the new studio that WEMJ is "almost" done with (our thanks to Dirk, Chris, Larry, and the management of Nassau Broadcasting!) as well as with getting the recorded show to us.

Thus, with great excitement, we are letting you know that we are ready to start testing the podcasting part – both the entire show as well as selected snippets or clips.  Each show is broken into two hours with multiple clips each (we are also going to be setting up the MTNP Photo Gallery so that you can see our guests that come into the studio).

Now, why am I saying this is a Beta Version, and what the heck does that mean?

Often in the engineering world, engineers like to pre-release their stuff so that real folks that would use the products can get their hands on it and test it early.  Hopefully, most things work OK, but not everything will.  Thus, they hope that the folks that try their stuff will also give them feedback as to what is good, and what is not.

In our case, you are testing me!  I’ve never played with audio files before, much less edited them.  Let me know, in your humble opinions, what I’m doing right and what I could do better.  Also, the other thing is me experimenting with getting all the peices here in cyberspace to line up correctly so that you can both stream and / or download the MP3 files too. 

NOTE: The "Hour" clips are going to be edited to remove the ads – especially in the beginning of each clip (10/14 is done, the others over the next few days).  Also, if people want (again, tell me your preferences!) – I will stitch "Part Xs" together when clips are broken into Part 1, Part 2. et al.

    Regarding your query as to whether to stitch the show segments into a complete show, my vote is YES, please do it.
    The reason is simply listener’s convenience. If this is done, the listener would be presented with an outline–chapters, if you will–of a given show and that person could 1) skim the segments to get a quick idea of what transpired during the two hours and then, go back to listen to a given segment in its entirety. It would contribute to better time management. On the other hand, if he wanted to recall a given segment some days later, it would be very easy to zero in on that segment without having to skim the entire show.
    In terms of the logistics of posting a stitched show AND a complete show, you might save a lot of server space if the complete show were discarded since the stitched parts would present the program in its entirety but broken into “chapters.”
    You decide. But please know that we greatly appreciate what you, Pat and Doug are doing to inform the voters of NH.
