Notable Quotes – Teddy Roosevelt

by Skip

The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life. — Teddy Roosevelt

I know that he is right – I think that we are seeing, for the second time in 40 years, that the American Liberal elite want peace at any cost.  My calculus is that even if they succeed at repeating the defeat of Vietnam, it will be of only a temporary form – those that hate our way of life, our freedom, or insolence of not submitting to Allah (for "Islam" means submission) will not stop.  The Liberals do not understand how powerfully intertwined the political and religious aspects of Muslim fundamentalists.

The cost will be far from the savings from a military  withdrawal….the cost of such a withdrawal will be immense….in the long term, perhaps at the cost of our freedom.

This is an odd comment, considering that Teddy Roosevelt unquestionably and unashamedly was the most progressive (liberal) president between Lincoln and FDR.
I’ve been a liberal myself (on most issues) since before the stupid, useless Vietnam War, and I never met one yet that wanted “peace at any cost.” This is just the same-old same-old GOP tactic of setting up a ridiculous straw man and then taking self-righteous potshots at it.
It’s sad that a lot of people still can’t admit they were wrong about Vietnam; probably they just haven’t spent enough time at The Wall or their friends’ graves. And gee whiz, fellers, Vietnam is doing just great these days. We’re the ones with the troubles; seems to me that a little peace over the past five years wouldn’t have hurt us a bit. Think of the school lunches and scholarships we could pay for if we had all those billions back, and how much we could rebuild New Orleans. Oh, yeah — and those priceless 3,992 American men and women.
    Naaah, guess not.
