I’ve changed my mind

Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is at it again:

I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.

(H/T: LGF

When he first proposed the draft a while ago as a way to embarrass the Bush administration spouting nonsense about the military being the only option for the poor and uneducated. Then he got mad when the Republicans decided to actually bring his bill to the floor and vote on it….and only two voted for it. At least they voted their convictions.

Rangel voted against his own bill. And now he’s trying to do it again.

We talked about it on Meet The New Press this past Saturday (podcast here), and frankly, we stated it was nothing more than a political ploy. His rhetoric is also wrong – there are a multitude of studies that show him wrong.

No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits.

And this is so wrong, I’m not even going to try to refute it.

Frankly, at this point, I WANT him to keep saying this nonsense – he is ticking off the wrong people. Since the link to LGF points over to Hot Air, you can see what AllahPundit says, too, about the comparison of “Live Shot” (Senator Kerry) and Rangel.

While Kerry is made himself an embarrassment over and over (and look at how our troops thought about him here), I think that if Rangel keeps this up, his “tick off” will eventually set most of the military against him. I think he knows this, but doesn’t care (he is playing to the left wing base of the Democratic Party). However, I don’t think he realizes how out of touch he is in that the folks that are not in the military but are / have been (like me – a Dad of a former Marine) will not forget.

Nor forgive for the sake of the folks that brave their lives for us.

Keep talking, Congressman Rangel, you’re only helping my side by showing all voters what you really think about the military….keep it up right until the ’08 election….
