McCain’s comments on the FairTax indicate two things:
    1) He doesn’t know what the bill actually says, and
    2) He doesn’t understand that the Federal Government taxes basic items such as food and clothes today. I don’t mean the embedded taxation that many FairTax supporters refer to, but basic goods and services are indirectly taxed today for Americans. As an example, if I’m in a 25% marginal tax bracket today and pay 1/2 of the payroll tax, I need to earn $148.48 to have $100 left to buy groceries after paying just my Federal taxes. Since I do not get a deduction for these expenses, my groceries were indirectly taxed.
Under the FairTax, if I’m earning $148.18, I will actually get to keep it all. My $100 in groceries will go to $130 (assuming no drop in base prices from the removal of embedded taxes) and I’m ahead by $18.48.
McCain’s point may be that since so many Americans don’t understand they do pay taxes on these items today, it will be POLITICALLY difficult to pass, but that’s not a good reason to be against a bill that would do so much good for the economic well-being of the nation and its citizens.

Where is the rest of George’s statement on the war? By the way, check P.1 of Sunday’s NY Times where Mr. Karzai says “the security situation is deteriorating.”

  • Donna Saichek

How will you manage to deflate the numerous and myriad groups that put their special interests ahead of the good of the whole populace? Today it’s popular to say you’re a _____ – American. How do we return to being a diverse, but tolerant and respectful, united American community?

  • Keith Page

    Questions abound!
    1. Will you establish a platform of specific positions on the numerous subjects out there?
    2. Will you clearly outline what your intentions are regarding the various subjects?
We need some specifics, as much as they are possible, or at least what YOUR intentions are, notwithstanding that you cannot fully control everything.

Senator Thompson, By generating nuclear electricity, heating with electricity and also by using nuclear heat to make oil and gasoline from it’s abundant coal (600 yr’s worth), the United States can reduce it’s carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 80% along with reducing it’s dependence on foreign oil to “ZERO”. As a candidate for the presidency are you willing to put this technology on the same footing that President Kennedy put the space program on in the 1960′s?

  • Evan

Here is a question I would have for Fred Thompson…I hope he answers it!!!!! What is his plan to address the problems facing social security for my generation?? I’m a recent college grad, working full time and def feeling the pain of all the taxes being taken out of each of my paychecks…Social Security is a failing system and people like Hillary Clinton (in a recent townhall meeting) give the impression that raising taxes is the only way to handle the impending problems. She also said that privatizing the system is off the table. How does Fred Thompson feel about this?? Thanks!

  • DDDarnall

I’ve followed Fred since his service in the Watergate hearings and the Marie Ragghianti case. I’m delighted to see him now in the race for president, and it’s my sincerest hope that he wins.
One of his most appealing qualities these many years– evidenced in part by his poll standings before even entering the race– has been a frank, straightforward delivery style with little of the animated body language that one associates with so many of candidates.
I see his style changing a bit in recent weeks– becoming more animated, with more gestures and movements for added emphasis. If he’s being coached to be more expansive in his delivery style in order to bring in more voters, I would urge against such counsel. At bottom, this country still wants a rock-solid, buck-stops-here, chief exec who listens but does not appear to cater to the voting public– as Reagan and others have proven.
His intellect and natural charisma have served him well so far, and, left alone, will carry the day, in my opinion.

The last two submissions to some of Judy’s articles are going unpublished on the sites. Am I doing something wrong in submission or are they purposely being excluded? Thanks…Ryan

  • Coach Chris

Fred, I really appreciated your stand against the reporter on the man-made global warming show of hands question. It showed your leadership ability is far above the rest. I am looking forward to voting for a candidate that puts it all on the line and lets it be known that strong border control, English language as a first, and respect for life will be the compass for his direction for the country. I expect that you will finish by giving the oath on the BIBLE to protect our Christian heritage as well.
Long live FREEDOM, our FIGHT’G SPIRIT, and FRED THOMPSON!!!!!!!!

  • http://blog.nrcc.org/ Robert McElroy

Skip, I acutally saw Carol Shea-Porter on C-Span today (9/10/08) castigating the Republican speakers for not cooperating with the Democrats on energy issues. The NRCC tonight had a blog entry of CS-P’s voting record. She voted against various energy bills 37 times since her election, from January 2007 on.
I don’t see an attachment feature for the article; here is the text…(apologies for the length, sadly, it’s a long list.)
Carol Shea-Porter Takes Hypocrisy to a New Low
    Posted By: NRCC Press Shop, September 10, 2008 – 3:08 PM http://blog.nrcc.org/
On the House floor today, Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) attempted to cover her back for an entire term spent blocking energy solutions by uttering this endlessly amusing line:
“We should have the discussion in the appropriate place and not block every piece of legislation that’s coming through right now.”
For the record, here is Shea-Porter’s voting history on proposed energy legislation in her one short, unfortunate term in Congress:
    • Voted against comprehensive energy legislation that would allow offshore and ANWR drilling and promote energy efficiency and alternative fuels (House Roll Call 831, 8/4/07)
    • Voted against lifting the ban on offshore oil and gas drilling (HRC 553, 6/26/07)
    • Voted to adjourn for five weeks instead of passing “all of the above” energy legislation (HRC 537, 7/30/08)
    • Voted to raise taxes on the production of gasoline, home heating oil, natural gas, and many other oil and gas products (HRC 454, 6/25/08)
    • Voted repeatedly to block consideration of the American Energy Act, an “all of the above” energy bill (HRC 524, 7/24/08)
    • Voted to raise taxes on the American manufacturing of gasoline, home heating oil, and natural gas, but exempt Venezuelan-owned Citgo from this tax increase; also voted against making permanent the child tax credit and marriage penalty relief (HRC 83, 2/27/08)
    • Voted to block consideration of a bill that would establish new refineries, allow energy exploration in ANWR and the Outer Continental Shelf, and provide incentives for alternative energies (HRC 391, 6/10/08)
    • Voted to adjourn for five weeks while gas cost $4.00 per gallon (HRC 566, 8/1/08)
    • Voted to raise taxes on oil companies and repeal incentives for energy production in Alaska and the Outer Continental Shelf (HRC 40, 1/18/07)
    • Voted against funds for local school districts that are hurt by fuel prices and have implemented service cuts in school bus transportation (HRC, 466 6/26/08)
    • Voted against allowing natural gas development at least 25 miles from the coast (HRC 552, 6/26/07)
    • Voted to prevent a new energy facility from being built that would provide up to 35% of the heat needed for New England’s homes and businesses (HRC 507, 7/16/08)
    • Voted to block consideration of a bill that would extend many alternative energy and energy efficiency tax credits, and also block consideration of amendments that would permit oil exploration in the Outer Continental Shelf (HRC 340, 5/21/08)
    • Voted to block consideration of a bill that would allow oil drilling in ANWR, use the revenues to fund alternative energy research, and prohibit the export of ANWR oil to other countries (HRC 526, 7/24/08)
    • Voted to block consideration of amendments that would allow oil drilling in ANWR (HRC 341, 5/21/08)
    • Voted to block consideration of a bill that would extend many alternative energy and energy efficiency tax credits, and also block consideration of amendments that would allow oil drilling in ANWR (HRC 310, 5/14/08)
    • Voted to block an amendment that would allow consideration of proposals to lower the price of gas, and would also require Speaker Pelosi to introduce legislation to lower gas prices (HRC 211, 4/23/08)
    • Voted repeatedly to block consideration of a bill that would repeal the ban on the federal government acquiring certain alternative fuels, including oil shale and liquefied coal (HRC 451, 6/25/08)
    • Voted to block consideration of a bill to encourage coal-to-liquid fuel projects (HRC 480, 7/10/08)
    • Voted to block consideration of a bill that would open new oil refineries on closed military bases (HRC 435, 6/20/08)
    • Voted to block consideration of amendments that could lower the price of gas (HRC 405, 6/12/08)
    • Voted to block consideration of amendments that could lower the price of gas (HRC 338, 5/21/08)
    • Voted to allow Congress to pass energy legislation even if it would raise gas prices and home heating costs HRC 578, 6/27/07)
    • Voted to fund earmarks for union organizations, while at the same time scaling back the proposed increase in home energy funding for low income families (HRC 1050, 11/6/07)
    • Voted against allowing public schools with significant energy cost increases to spend federal grants on maintenance costs (HRC 378, 06/04/08)
    • Voted to weaken the border fence, fund 9,000 earmarks, underfund military bases (BRAC), restrict domestic energy production, reduce the states’ share of royalties from energy production, continue to allow the government to take legal action against companies that require employees to speak English, and expand the family planning program that gives taxpayer funds to the largest abortion provider in America (HRC 1171, 12/17/07)
    • Voted against requiring research projects that could lower gasoline prices to be given special consideration for federal funding (HRC 216, 4/23/08)
    • Voted against creating a competition to lower the cost of aviation fuel using coal, oil shale and biomass technologies (HRC 420, 6/18/08)
    • Voted to restrict energy production on federal lands, thereby increasing dependence on foreign oil (HRC 577, 6/27/07)
    • Voted to exclude coal-based fuel from a bill that would help alternative fuels become compatible with existing energy infrastructure (HRC 91, 2/8/07)
    • Voted against extending the advanced coal and coal gasification tax credits (HRC 834, 8/4/07
The record truly speaks for itself.

I really had a chuckle over the feigned outrage over the AIG bonuses being paid. We should all get on our congressional delegation to insure that our tax money from the bail outs is NOT used to pay for Lobbyists or donations to PAC’s supporting our congressional members. Just think how much outrage we could see if our money was used to lobby and influence our keepers of the purse. HA, there was not outrage over the money given to slimitor Dodd for mortgage deals and outright donations to his PAC by AIG and Countrywide. Nuff Said.

WHY PEDOPHILES ARE FALLING IN LOVE WITH SINGLE MOMS
Pedophiles are learning to love single moms. Not because these predators are changing their sexual preferences, but because many single moms are inadvertently creating happy hunting grounds for that subspecies of pedophiles who like their prey young – really young.
“Think of it” says Crystal the Jacquez, managing editor of Guys That Lie.com, an online back grounding site. “If you’re one of the tens of thousands of pedophiles with a taste for really young kids, how do you get to them? Children under five or six are just too young to be online by themselves.”
“So what does this most dangerous form of pedophiles do?” asks Jacquez, “He surfs social networking sites looking for the pages of proud single mothers just aching to show potential dates how beautiful their children are and just hoping to attract men who will not only will love them, but will love their children too.
Well, the single moms who put photos of their pre-school kids on their social networking homepages are certainly attracting at least one type of child-loving guy – pedophiles”
“And single mothers almost always do it.” says, Jacquez. “Just look at the pages of Facebook and MySpace. It’s not only incredibly dangerous but worse, most single moms have absolutely no idea that it’s dangerous at all!”
Literally, millions of single moms are now on social networks like Facebook and MySpace — and almost all of them proudly show off photos of their kids on their homepages and profiles.
So if you’re a pedophile stalking preschoolers, half an hour of searching out single mothers on social sites and you’ve got a dozen lush candidates – photos and all – just a few key strokes away”.
Not only that, continues Jacquez, “but the predators know that these kids are often protected only by lonely, vulnerable women. WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY! It’s a pedophile’s dream!
Read this excerpt from a report in the journal American Psychologist, published by the American Psychological Association, regarding pedophiles stalking pre-schoolers on the internet:
“Finding prepubescent victims directly (on the Internet) is quite rare; such offenders use the Internet in other ways. Pedophiles typically get access to preschool victims through online contact with parents”
“If you have pictures of your child on line,” says Jacquez, “don’t be too surprised to get a message like the following from some nice sounding guy”:
“Hey! I just saw your profile on Facebook and you are one great looking lady — and that little girl of yours is just marvelous looking! She looks so bright etc. etc. etc!”
“You’re going to have a new best friend very soon,” she says. “Count on it!”
Who hasn’t heard of Lolita, one of the most famous books in America, in which the pedophile gets access to the prepubescent daughter by courting her divorced mother. You can still see the movie on cable TV with James Mason and Shelley Winters as the grown-ups and Sue Lyon as Lolita.?
Jacquez also cites the following statistic from: Offender Characteristics, U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics re. Victim-offender relationships in sexual assault regarding who sexually assaults children under 6 years old.
Who assaults children under 6 years old:
    Trusted family members: 48.6%
    Strangers: 3.1%
    Trusted family acquaintances: 48.3%
“If a pedophile targets your child’s photo on your homepage, trust us,” says Jacquez, “they’ll become a ‘trusted family acquaintance’ soon enough. “
“Don’t close down your social network homepages” Jacquez says. “Just get those photos of your kids off them!”
“One thing more thing,” says Jacquez, “when you meet a new guy online, check him out immediately with us at Guys That Lie.com (www.guysthatlie.com). Our site is free and was built in order to empower women to check out the backgrounds of guys that they meet online.
“First, check our Child Molesters Section where we access the photos and home addresses of over almost 1,000,000 registered sex offenders. Then check him out in our Criminal Records Section. Then check to see if he’s using a phony name. After that, check out all his claims about his background. There is no way,” she says, “that you can be too careful.”
Guys and Lies also has a special page on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/guysthatlie and on MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/guysthatlie.S
Jacquez asks you to please forward this article to single moms you know who have their kid’s photos online..

First, I dare you to post this.
I am writing about your hypocritical policies. You and your co-founder, Doug Lambert, state that your policies include the following:
“Starting a flaming war will get you banned, ditto for foul language, foul intentions, issue slurs, libel anyone, or threatening to cause physical harm to anyone or their families. Calling us names we don’t like? – deleted! Attacking people – banned.”
And yet your co-founder goes onto a public transmission and web streaming cam and calls a NH politian a “faggot”?
Second, You lost me with “…slurs”. Who could have any respect for this webise and your opinions which are as one-sided and slanted as the manner in which you practice your “policies”.
I suggest you guys go find another career. Try garage collection. Maybe you can go help clean up this earth that you have attempted to foul with your vomit.
