Victors Want to Compromise? Fine. Do It The Right Way

I’ve been hearing a lot of noise regarding “working across the aisle” and the like from Tuesday’s victors and others in the new majority, like Ayotte, and it’s got me thinking.

You want to work across the aisle, fine. Compromise can be good. Here are two distilled examples of compromise, acceptable and unacceptable.

Here’s the compromise, I, and I believe most conservatives, do not support:
Democrat: “We want to grow the government by 50%”
Republican: “That’s too much, let’s grow it by 20%”
Deal.

Here’s the compromise, I, and I believe most conservatives, do support:
Republican: “We want to shrink the government by 50%”
Democrat: “That’s too much, let’s shrink it by 20%”
Deal.

See the difference? For far too long, the “compromise” meant moving in the Left’s Big Government direction. How about we start moving in the Right’s direction. Make them “compromise”. Start chopping bureaucracies, reining in regulations, shrinking budgets, trimming the considerable fat. Everyone, on both sides, says there is waste, fraud, and needless redundancy in the Government and it’s unacceptable. Fine start there.  Remove it. That’s a compromise.
